It was then great to listen to Hanni find an easy way of telling Jim he was totally wrong. Jim would then sound astounded bringing up the play for another two innings.

Personally I find Hannagrif annoying.

I don't think it was sour grapes but who knows.

I think Blair has a great voice and is very professional. However it just doesn’t seem authentic and is almost too polished.

I never cared for Hawthorne but you could feel his passion for LSU. Blair just doesn’t have a real connection but perhaps it will develop.

You nailed it. I am a big fan of Hani because he is so knowledgeable about sports in general. He is rarely wrong but is the first to admit it when he is. Then will tell you if he doesn't know something. I wanted him to get the full time gig because of his passion for LSU. Most didn't because he can be very dry. That being said Blair has a great radio voice and is very very good. I think the longer he is here he will develop that passion for LSU sports that you can hear and cannot fake.

Excellent at color. Not good at PBP. Way too monotone for PBP.

Yeah Blair is better but JH had a passion for LSU and you could hear it in his voice. Blair will get there with time.

I agree with this... Hanny is just to monotone for me... His excitement level NEVER goes over A 5.........

It really is a shame he doesn’t do it anymore. Him and Blair would be a killer combo

Blair has obvious faux excitement during football games.

Hanagriff has everything you’d like in a baseball play by play-or a color commentator for that matter-except for a good radio voice.

Loved his stuff but disliked the delivery.

He sounds like he's on Valium.

He's one of us though, (Have no idea where he grew up and/or went to HS/College) so that gets all the "Luziana Lifers" excited.

100% false. Hawthorne was an excellent play caller and that is why he is in the HoF.
Blair has a good smooth voice, but has a ways to go in terms of his tempo at times when things are moving in a pivotal moment. I don’t “believe” he is an LSU fan. He doesn’t sell it enough for me.

You must be a youngster. Hawthorne calling games in the ‘80’s and 90’s was awesome. On many occasions, I would only listen to the radio instead of the TV. I loved him in basketball and baseball.

Behind the scenes, Hani wasn't very liked. They were looking for a reason to get rid of him. Before the season started, he went in asking for a raise and left without a job. He later announced that they mutually agreed to part ways, but that really wasn't the case.

I wish he still called games. His voice is very monotone and his excitement level sounds a bit forced, but I'd rather an LSU guy with a poor radio voice than someone with a great voice that doesn't care about the Tigers. I've enjoyed his sports commentary since the mid 90's. He's a Tiger fan through and through.

The middle third with Hanny calling the PBP was my favorite part. What I wouldn't give to get hanny back in the baseball booth. Maybe we need to start a petition.

"Here's the pitch... CALLED STRIKE THREEEE!!!!"

Hanny bleeds p&g

I agree 100%. Chris Blair was a homerun hire. And he is SO VERY much better at calling football games than Hawthorne. For his last few years, Hawthorne was constantly getting the names of players wrong. I still remember in the 2012 Alabama game, he called Mettenberger "McCarron" twice on one drive.

+1

Hannigriff could almost put me to sleep sometimes while I was listening to an LSU baseball game. He does know a lot about baseball, but I was never that impressed with him calling games.

And LSU would have made a huge mistake in choosing Hannigriff over Chris Blair as the new "voice of the Tigers." Blair is awesome.

Not sure whether I fully believe this, but I don't doubt it very much. Hannigriff does have a bit of an ego and is a bit of a whiner. I remember during the 2015 football season, there was a game where it just rained cats and dogs before and during the game, and during the week afterwards on one of his shows, he went on and on in criticizing some security guard who did his job and wouldn't give him special treatment and allow him to enter the stadium in a restricted entrance. Apparently Hannigriff had forgotten his press I.D. or something like that. I think the security guard was his "no class" for the week.

That being said, I think Hannigriff is the best sports radio guy around concerning LSU. His knowledge is unmatched by anyone else and he has always kept things "real," and not been hyperbolic. You can also tell he is a huge LSU fan, and can't stand Alabama, which I totally agree with him on. "Sports Today" is the bomb.

I like Blair on PBP, but would MUCH rather have had Hanny as color and relief PBP. I like Doug T but he has a way to go and should NOT do PBP.

All that said, Ben McDonald is awesome as a color guy. Easily my favorite baseball analyst.
