Yep,
Pom-poms and towels only quiet a crowd. Maybe look cool on TV but you cannot clap while shaking or swinging one. Noise helps a home team win.

I will be there along with some rowdy buddies and I assure you towels will NOT affect my noise level!! I will most certainly lose my voice Saturday night!!!

I agree with this.
But this is Louisiana, not Alabama. They gave out towels at the Saints game last week and nobody was fricking waving them. It's a souvenir to us, not a game prop.

If i had to choose I'd prefer shakers, but I'd honestly prefer neither. People are panicking over nothing though, because it's going to be loud af Saturday
