I live here...Memphis basketball is all anyone talks about. I haven't heard anyone stick up for the guy, they all think he's done next to nothing with tons of talent. Granted, everyone here thinks Memphis should be contending for national championships every year ( ) so their expectations are a little skewed.

They've been consistently over rated the last 3 years or so.

according to every single non-memphis fan in the entire world. People here talk about Memphis basketball like LSU fans talk about football. It's sad.

talent wise though, they aren't bad....Pastner doesn't coach defense or know how to handle a ball hog.

It's not sad. It's just a basketball city. Pastner may need a fresh start. I brought up all the red flags regarding pastner yesterday. I think he has the potential to be a good coach but whenever a fan base is willing to just let him go it should cause some concern on the program getting him (see TCU and LSU).

I think that's your problem more than anything else. The guy followed Callipari who had Memphis on an elite level. Anything short of maintaining that elite level and the fans consider him a failure. Hell, there are STILL people in this fanbase who want to get rid of Les Miles because he hasn't "lived up to the standard" set by Nick Saban.

I've always said that there is no reason LSU's basketball program couldn't be just like Florida's. Pastner COULD (emphasis on could) be LSU's Donovan. Pastner may not be my #1 choice, but I wouldn't be dissapointed if he was the guy. At a minimum, I thinkg it would pump some life back into the program.

I think Pastner would be a great hire. Great recruiter, who probably got the job a little young. Has been learning as he goes. I have read many reviews of his coaching, and most analysts agree that he is improving as a coach.

I think getting out from under Calipari's shadow at Memphis would be good for him. It is very similar to a Saban/Miles situation -- if Miles was 33 years old.

Pastner just put together one of the best 3 year runs for a rookie coach ever. He also did not inherit a loaded team. Good, but not loaded. Cal took nearly the entire recruiting class with him to UK.

if they aren't willing to hire someone who got the same type of minor infractions that Les Miles has gotten, we will never win in basketball again. There are some extremely clean coaches who would never cheat who have gotten minor infractions because their compliance department screwed up. It happens

+1

Is there any good college basketball coach out there that is squeaky clean? Didn't Les Miles get LSU football put on probation, and we all think he is as clean as they come. So are we saying that if John Calipari was begging to be the LSU coach that Joe Alleva would simply say, "Sorry, you have had past accusations from the NCAA."

That's just stupid!!!

Pastner is a long shot at best. Memphis gave him a shot in the dark chance 3 years ago, and just reupped him for five years 1.7 Million. His loyalty is to Memphis.

Also, don't really see why the situation with Drew has changed. The violations have been known for a while and Baylor implemented self-imposed penalities months ago. If they never wanted him, fine. However, the news that came out yesterday shouldn't change anything.

Nothing Drew has done is any worse than what Cal did at Memphis and UMass. UK didn't care. Maybe that's the difference in them and us.

would anything that Drew has done at Baylor follow him here? Even if something would follow him here, it hasn't seemed to hurt Calipari much.

They said Jamie Dixon had "local ties". He's from Cali and played at tcu.

His sister was an assistant at La Tech for a year. That's all I could find.

If the LSU admins really believe our Compliance Department is so good, we shouldn't have a problem with anyone who isn't blatantly handing out money to players.

Yeah I'm sure they would just love to have to hire a new coach right now.

Memphis would introduce Scott Drew as the Memphis head coach about 5 minutes after Pastner to LSU become official...go for it guys! do it now!

paying 2.2-2.5 for Pastner is like TCU paying 2.3 for TJ.
