Memphis would introduce Scott Drew as the Memphis head coach about 5 minutes after Pastner to LSU become official...go for it guys! do it now!

paying 2.2-2.5 for Pastner is like TCU paying 2.3 for TJ.

This would be great for both programs IMO

I'm sure yall have mentioned this, but I honestly dont think Jones is comin....Tony Mitchell wouldnt have made the decision to go back to UNT if JJ wasnt there.

I live here...Memphis basketball is all anyone talks about. I haven't heard anyone stick up for the guy, they all think he's done next to nothing with tons of talent. Granted, everyone here thinks Memphis should be contending for national championships every year ( ) so their expectations are a little skewed.
I wouldn't put much stock in what the fans perceptions are of him at this point anyway. He's basically following in the footsteps of a Nick Saban type coach. He's almost in a lose/lose situation with the fans. In order to make them happy the only thing he can do is win an NC almost imediately just to alleviate the pain of losing Calipari to their hated rival.

I wish we would consider the LSU-S coach. That guy does nothing but win.

I dont see any mention of Stan Heath out of USF. Had a great year or 2 and brought this team out of the dumps to make the NCAA this year and also kicked butt in the Big East. He can coach the lights out but not sure on recruiting. Thought I would bring the name up for opinions. I am not a huge basketball junkie outside of LSU basketball but keep up some locally.

After his tenure at Arkansas, Stan Heath has to be way down the list. They'd go with Jones over Heath.

I would think LSU would remember Heath's "coaching prowess" from his time at Arkansas

I'm happy that you support Pastner to LSU so much. I would really enjoy this hire because while certainly an understood risk, it's also a reward type hire. We have more money than Memphis, a lot more. And that's not every going to change over the long-term because we'll fill a 100k seat stadium in football and Memphis will continue to be a directional program in that regard. No matter how much success Memphis has in basketball won't account for the financial divide created by LSU's supremacy in football.

So paying 2.0-2.3 for a guy like Pastner isn't akin to the TJ situation at all IMO, because I think most understand the risk involved. TJ, at the time, wasn't considered a risky hire. Far from it. And with the other names listed, Jones for instance, I would easily rather make a run with a young, energetic guy, that knows the recruiting scene and can increase the talent and evaluation level.

Pastner is never going to be able to recreate what Cal created and that is what Memphis fans expected. But if that was a realistic possibility, it seems like a very strange hire to follow Cal in the first place. He would do well to start anew in BR.
