You are exactly right, I don't see slaughter coming out of the lineup. At least until Smith comes back, then CPM will have a decision to make.

Hope Jake is killing it by then and it will make an even tougher decision.

I truly believe all Tiger fans want Jake to succeed, he has a lot of upside, he just needs to quit pressing and just play ball.

And that's understandable. I resend my previous post and will keep it simple. "Yes, I would love to see Smith return to play third base as Hughes continues to do well at SS. Jake Slaughter is a wonderful person and wish him the best as his bat will be needed during SEC play."
(All players are treated with respect and without being bashful)

Happy now..?

Reason 1) Hal is comfortable at short. And in baseball, being comfortable in the field can lead to better ABs. If we move him, it could disrupt how well he is hitting.

Reason 2) We know Smith can play both positions at a very high level. We don't know how well Hal can play 3B yet. In many ways, it's more difficult than SS.

Smith was excellent third baseman. Made some mistakes at short. Hughes look awesome at short. If anything I’m moving smith to 3rd slaughter to Dj outfield of 1st

Sure wish Jake would get comfortable, somewhere.
But you are correct, the more a player has to think, the less effective they become. It's apparent Jake needs to slow his thought process down and speed up his ability to just play ball.

I've said this before, but I think he starts in the outfield next year.

His bat will make strides this year, but he will explode next year, IMO. Moving down the defensive spectrum will free his mind a bit.

Appears to be the smart move that makes us better defensively and keeps both bats in the lineup. Hughes has performed quite well, especially as a FR.

Get Smith and Watson back in the lineup, and some healthy pitchers, lets' GEAUX!

Smith said a couple of months ago that Hughes is the smoothest infielder he has ever seen.

Im not sure any team needs a sub .100 hitter. especially one who isn't magnificent in the field.

Slaughter would be a sick DJ. He could play the walk up songs for his teammates.

This is 1st post in this thread, who brought up Slaughter, you did, HoldThat. So when someone else makes a similar comment, you got all RANT on them

How is saying we will have to see what Hughes and Slaughter is doing by the time Smith comes back, similar to idiots saying Slaughter needs to be out of the line up immediately?

Look, Slaughter may continue to struggle, but I doubt that. I would put my money on him being a very solid contriubtor in SEC play. This needs to be revisisted when Smith returns. The constant, Slaughter sucks post in nearly every baseball thread are ignorant. At least one person in this thread gets it.

As I’ve said in other threads. Jake Slaughter has much more potential than any other option at 3rd. Letting him take his lumps now might net you an elite player once the heart of sec play comes around. Now how long CPM gives him is yet to be determined but you can’t pull him when March isn’t even here yet.

Someone who gets it... That's exactly why he is in. Hitters hit their way out of slumps and we need his bat for SEC play. We are 8 games into it. What we learn year in and year out is that these games really don't matter. It's the same reason PM is keeping starting pitching in longer than people on this board thinks he should. They are on a pitch count and will pitch that amount of pitches, almost regardless of their performance. Almost...

What would make you bet on that. Everything about his body language shows a kid that isn't comfortable at the plate. Why would that change against better pitching?

At times it looks like he is completely guessing. Like he decides whether or not he is going to swing before the ball is pitched.

I believe it was Ell that noted that he wasn't striking out and was barreling up some balls right at people but look at lat year. He was hitting like .420 at this point in the season. When the pitching got better, he got significantly worse. Nothing in his approach at the plate makes me think that he has grown at all from last year.

Dude its baseball.

Slumps come and go. Chances are the guys killing it now suck at some point in the year and the guys sucking now, especially Jake, turn it around.

Again, it's baseball dude..

He started out red hot last year, then came back down to earth with a slump. He then returned to be solid towards the end of the season. Every baseball player in the history of baseball has gone in and out of slumps. He can just as easily hit .500 the next 8 games. My point is, it is too early to be constantly bitching right now.

If Smith was coming back this weekend, no doubt Smith and Hughes are playing. No questions asked, but that's not the case. The Slaughter vs Reid argument is dumb. For 1-2 games, sure, but not for months.

The rant has their favorites to jump all over and complain about every season. Last year it was Slaughter and Jordan. This season, they haven't been able to complain about the Jordan's, so Slaughter it is. If Slaughter goes 0-4 then there will be tons of threads. Same with Hess to the pen. There were 500 threads about it after game 1. How many did you see after the Texas game?

Fair enough

In my opinion, his slump has less to do with bad luck and more to do with his plate approach. Hopefully he can fix his approach with more ABs but color me skeptical.
