Hal Hughes and Josh Smith
Posted by ArcticFox on 2/28/18 at 9:00 am1111
Why is the consensus that we'd leave Hughes at SS and move Smith to 3B?
Any reason why Smith doesn't resume SS duties with Hughes at 3B?

I don't think anything is a given at this point. Its probably because Hughes looks so smooth at SS right now though.
There is plenty of time and Hughes bat may cool off, or Squints bat may heat up, leaving a difficult decision to make.

Even though it's a small sample size, Hughes looks to be a better defensive shortstop. It doesn't hurt that he is crushing the ball. Some people feel Smith is a better third baseman than shortstop. As long as Hughes plays good defense and hits I don't know why you would mess with it.

I want to see Hughes handle sec pitching first, so far so good, we'll see.
If he continues to field the position and do the little things at the plate like move runners and bunt when called upon he will make it hard to take him out of the lineup.
I still think this team will need Slaughter's bat come SEC play so hopefully he gets it together and makes it a hard decision for PM if and when Smith comes back.
Keep in mind, Smith can't do anything from a physical standpoint for a month and then he will be reevaluated. It will take him some time to get back into it. It might be mid April before he can get back.

Why push Hughes to third when Smith played there last and proved that he's clearly capable... Hell, throw Chris Reid a bone at third before Smith returns. Point being, Slaughter in the line up is not being productive as of right now.

Dude, this thread had zero to do with Slaughter. Learn how to comprehend what you read, before posting stupid crap.
Dumbass, before you go off on someone make sure you know what YOU are talking about.
This has everything to do with Slaughter. Who do you think plays 3rd right now. What position are you talking about smith playing? 3rd? Yep. So that means Slaughter would have to be benched or moved. The OP question was why do people keep mentioning Smith being 3rd and Hal staying at SS. The answer is the DIRECT RESULT of Slaughter. If he is hitting .400 and playing great defense, no one would be talking about smith to 3rd.
Stop being an arse.

Can you shut up and at least take your shots at Slaughter in an appropriate thread.

A- Smith back to SS, Hughes to 3B Or B- Hughes stays at SS, Smith to 3B Notice how Slaughter isn't part of that?
And one more time... Just to drive the point across..
Any of those moves directly relate to Jake.
GFY

No shite. Read the OP again. Not once was slaughter mentioned, so it is safe to say the OP is assuming the Slaughter will be benched.
It was Smith vs Hughes at SS and Third, no where was Slaughter mentioned. This isn't the thread to shite on Slaughter in.
Thanks. Have a nice day.

your reading comprehension must be non existent.

Oh ok. So you want general statements without any context. Got it. Go back to class, Jake. Playing on your phone isn't going to keep your grades up.

Sadly, because these morons can only comprehend batting average, every thread has turned into the shite on slaughter thread.
It's sad really. You have Mainieri talking about how the reason he's stayed there is because of how hard he's been hitting the ball even if they haven't landed for hits, and people still keep saying he's hitting feeble pop ups and slow grounders.
He's going to continue to play third for the next month and a half at least, fricking deal with it people.

The truth is simple: the eye test.
Hughes just looks like a SS. He’s silky smooth and has a great glove.

Exactly. I wish I could up vote your post 100 times.
Every thread, no matter what, is turned into a shite on Slaughter and play Reid thread.
The people that think they know more than CPM are laughable. With the recent injuries, the DH spot came open. Did Reid get that spot? Nope. Austin fricking Bain got it. A senior, who has been mainly a pitcher while at LSU. That is pretty telling.
Reid is a guy to come in a pinch hit when you need to put the ball in play anywhere late in the game. That is his value to this team. People point to his freshman year, but we were desperate at that point. Could Reid be inserted and do serviceable? Sure, but this team needs Slaughter in the game. It is too early to pull him.

Touchy aren't we? But we wouldn't be having this thread if slaughter was lighting it up on the field or in the batter's box, which he isn't.
I know he has the tools to be great, but, he needs to sharpen a few of them if he wants to stay in the lineup.

As I’ve said in other threads. Jake Slaughter has much more potential than any other option at 3rd. Letting him take his lumps now might net you an elite player once the heart of sec play comes around. Now how long CPM gives him is yet to be determined but you can’t pull him when March isn’t even here yet.

This is 1st post in this thread, who brought up Slaughter, you did, HoldThat. So when someone else makes a similar comment, you got all RANT on them.
What's up with that?
