You’re being disingenuous. You were calling out others for being negative towards Slaughter by pointing out that this thread was not about him. You being the first in the thread to mention him points towards hypocrisy on your part
If you can't understand the difference between "calling out Slaughter" and what I said then there is no hope for you.

Whether that comes now or in summer league play, he still has to log the innings and see it. Count me in the group that if Hughes stays in the lineup, we will see him with better ABs sooner rather than later.
he needs some seasoning as he bites on the slider or curve in the dirt every damn time. SEC pitching will eat him up.

I don't necessarily agree with you, but you are a breath of fresh air here. Love when people can debate the other side of it and actually know what they are talking about instead of just "so and so sucks."

that would be a dumb move. hughes has his strengths but he has consistently struck out (and looked stupid doing it) with RISP
Everybody with a brain knew that Hughes would be the most likely of any of them to struggle when it was looked at as a whole.
That being said, Hughes has done a really great job and will only get better with time. He is getting some valuable experience now, and maybe he puts it all together in the next few weeks and makes the decision very very hard.

this may be the best baseball thread we've had on here in a while. What a wonderful problem to have...so many weapons and only 9 spots in the lineup.
You've got guys with great potential like Slaughter having to fight off guys steadily getting on base like Reid. You've got the best infielder on the team in Hughes likely not starting down the road, because even though he's probably hitting over 300 right now, we know Josh Smith has a better bat. The two guys with probably the least potential in the lineup (the Jordans) are hitting the ball better than anyone and Bryce is playing like a golden glove 1B despite being under 6' tall. Dups just consistently getting base hits and making great catches, and Feduccia with a cannon behind the plate. Not to mention Watson not even being in the lineup. This may be the top offense in the SEC at the end of the season

Hughes is now hitting 0.258. His average took a big drop this week.

HH will continue to struggle at the plate until he can do something with a breaking ball other than whiffing it.

Eh, I think its more of a lot of young versatile players that will all struggle at one point during the season. It will take a little while to figure out who is up to the task in SEC play.

Hughes definitely had a rough weekend, which is unfortunate but not killer. His defense has been great which is obviously important. Slaughter has been picking up his slack which is nice too. Thing is there aren't all that many ABs yet at this point in the season, so averages are going to take pretty hard swings in one direction or another. It was interesting to see Reed at 2b yesterday. Unfortunate circumstances, but still a good opportunity for him. He looked pretty good there, or at least enough to be a comfortable backup. We've got some viable options which is obviously a good thing.
One question, which I hesitate to ask, God forbid Hughes goes out for say a game before Smith comes back, who do you start there? I'd say right now we have viable options at every position except short.

How many plays did Reid make at 2B yesterday? The only thing I remember is him dropping a throw down allowing a steal and not being at 2B in time for Hal to have that option on the third out of the inning.
ETA: He made a good play on a ball to his left and Hilliard covering the bag.

Depends on if Watson is still injured. I'd put him or Slaughter there in that scenario.

I would expect slaughter to move over with Reid to 3rd then webre to second if broussard isnt back

Watson to short seems weird to me.
I know he played it in high school but still. Idk seems odd

Reed wasn't outstanding at 2b but played well enough that he'd make for a decent enough backup. Assuming everyone is healthy he's probably about 3rd or 4th on the depth chart so with that in mind I'd say not too bad.
Watson or slaughter at short would seem weird to me, but I guess either could pull it off if we were in dire straits. Could Broussard (assuming healthy) play short? I'm reeealy hoping this is all a stupid hypothetical. We've hopefully eaten up all of our allocation of injuries already this year.

Again. OBP is great. It really is. But I'm going to say it again. It's the ONLY positive concerning Reid's play. People keep hanging on that single stat to ignore everything else.
I think we can agree on this: Reid's penchant for getting on base doesn't necessarily make him a great player, and his lack of HR power and speed don't necessarily make him a bad player. Where we disagree is how much value to place on the various skills a player brings to the table. You're probably more willing than I am to sacrifice some OBP if it means more HRs/speed. And that's ok, at the end of the day we both want LSU Baseball to succeed.

Appreciate it man, we've got some good LSU Baseball fans here. I've enjoyed the back & forth.

I’ve heard Smith is likely out for awhile. Has this changed or has anybody seen a timetable?

Question: if Broussard is still hurt can Smith or Hughes play second?? Just a different thought line.
