This is classic weakness. People who are weak are more afraid before the fight begins and will imagine failure easier than success. Guilbeau's article didn't convince me of anything. I know our weaknesses and strengths, but that is no reason to fall apart a week before the first game like a menstruating teenager.

Tee Martin's Vols had more luck than any team ever. SU win luck, UF win luck, Arky win QB fumbles the ball or it's over and they lose.

If we go 8-4, something is very much awry.

As I've been saying, in order to go 8-4, we would either have to lose an OOC game to a cupcake or go 4-4 in the SEC. Neither of those things is acceptable, as far as I am concerned.

Well the games that scare me the most are UF, AU and USC all on the Road....then UGA at home

Then Bama at home, should win that one, but hey...ya never know...so before we get to Bama, we have 4 very tight games..going 2of 4 in that stretch is a huge victory no matter who your QB is..

Those games could go one way or the other, IMO..

This isn't a good year to start a freshman QB....

I think we go 9-3....10-2 with RP this year..and SEC Champ game..BSC bowl and win that game..this year, it likely won't happen..

I don't know what to expect, the conference is stacked, and we all have a lot of changes....

Can we score points against good teams on the road?

Guess everyone picked a loss to Ky and Ark. last year.

You never know.

Last three years, 11-2, 11-2 and 12-2. See a trend?

Had Byrd bobbled that pass, time expires. Fortuntely, it didn't. Another prayer bailed Miles out of on boneheaded decision.

Hey Geert,

If there was 1 second left on the clock, why did LSU have to kickoff to Auburn after the TD? Bryd's TD took Zero time?

Only a crazy Dutch bastard could bobble a ball for 3 or 4 seconds.

They’ll basically have to hide their quarterback, sort of like Skip Bertman would hide a great hitter who couldn’t field at designated hitter, third base or first base.

This makes no sense.
Sorry Glenn, don't get the analogy.....

you hit the nail on the head. guilbeau has a black cloud hanging over his head when it comes to LSU sports. reading anything he writes is like bitting down on tin foil: a non-specific pain that is really annoying.

Looking back at 2002, that team had many more defensive issues than 2008, and started an inexperienced QB that still got to 6-1 before getting knocked out at the Swamp.

QB play during the 2-4 finish to '02 was erratic, including a shutout to Bammer and being outscored by Texass in the Cotton Bowl.

QB play in '08 may be spotty, but the overall team strength is such that the record will be better than '02. This looks like a 9-3 regular season, 10-3 after the bowl win, and momentum for another NC run in 2009.

NOBODY, including me, knows what's going to unfold this year. But, pre-season attitudes DO show what kind of person you are. G is and always will be a negatiger and a phoney. That's why I don't bother to read his crap. But, anyone who does some basic comparison of team talent and depth at all positions can't help but be impressed with LSU's OL, WRs, RBs, TE, DL, and Ss. Obviously, QB, CB, LB are a concern. But we have better overall talent at those positions than most SEC teams. If this team jells over the course of the 3 rent-a-wins, look out!

I like what Studs has done with the OL. Remember last year was his first year also. Those two first year coaches have taken this team to another level. Keep an eye on the Special Teams play, Joe Rob is another great hire by Les. Talking with a couple coaches last month in TX.,they couldn't quit talking up Joe Rob. At one time he was the recruiting coordinator at S. Miss., back when they were pulling in some very good players.

One thing that noone can deny is that Miles has consistenly surrounded himself with great staff.

i live in shreveport home of the gilbleaux! this guy is one the worst sports writers of all time! EX. last year flordia comes to B.R. and on the front cover of the times sports page was a 3/4 pic. of the flordia q.b. LSU was ranked #1 and all this guy could do was suck the piece of the flordia q.b.! He picked flordia to win-he picked osu to win, it seems as if he needs to be employed by espn and not a LOUISIANA new paper.
I HATE GILLBLEAUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually there are several trends... We are keeping consistent talent coming through the program...Miles is consistently doing a great job of coaching and bringing in quality assistants....and (this is one of the keys) we consistenly have had a seasoned signal caller leading the team--seasoned by either a)time on the field or b)time in the program. It's this third trend that is obviously missing from this year's team. How will that play out....we could set a new trend and win big anyway, or it could be a quite challenging year......for all of us.

You really think we only go 4-4 conference.

Certainly it's possible, but I think our talent alone will get us to 5 wins in the SEC.

I think 9-3 sounds reasonable. 8 wins would be a bit of a disappointment.

10 wins and any championships are a berth in the SEC Championship game is a successful year for me.

Read it again Helen Keller, I didn't say all. I said MOST.
LSU has benefitted greatly from calls & fortunate bounces going our way.

Well, I think Helen read things fine, but YOU need to watch the games, Stevie Wonder.

quote:

'05- Early didn't have possesion of that last TD at ASU. But refs ruled in our favor.

He caught the ball.

quote:

Florida- 5 LSU turnovers & a terrible pass by Chris Leak at the end saved a loss.

So, WE commit five turnovers and WE'RE the lucky ones? Wow, you're amazing.

quote:

Auburn- How many field goals did Vaughn miss again? And you don't think those bounces went our way?

Most of those kicks, had they been made, would have been his longest of the season. We were stopping them outside of his normal FG range and they kept trying them rather than punting. It was not at all surprising that he missed them. And, of course, you forget that we also missed mulitple FGs in that game (from well within our normal range, btw), AND dropped two TD passes. AND they had to connect on a desperation 4th and goal from the 7 to take the lead in the 4th quarter, too. But as always, you overlook all of that and just say LSU got lucky.

quote:

What about the Arkansas game when Casy Dick just threw one up for grabs on their last possesion when they were driving for a game winning FG?

You mean when LSU's defense was pressuring the shite out of him and forced him to make a bad play? Yeah, what about it?

quote:

If not for what I think was a sympathy call & favorable bounces in our way, we finish the regular season at 5-6 or 6-5.

If not for the refs overlooking one of the most blatant cases of holding I've ever seen, Tennessee faces 1st and 20 from the 35 in OT instead of 1st and goal inside the 5, with us leading by 3.

quote:

Les sure has been lucky at home against Auburn. Had to be bailed out by a last second catch.

Lucky? We practically double them in total offense, but turnovers and an intentional injury to our best defensive player keep them in the game, but WE'RE the lucky ones? Had to be bailed out? We could have kicked a FG on the next play if that pass hadn't been caught.

quote:

Not being in your word a "negatiger" just looking at things the way they happened.
And I don't apologize for not seeing things through your clouded eyes.

No, Geert, you have the most clouded eyes of anyone on the board. You and few others get off on pissing off other people by always taking the anti-LSU position in every situation. It's a tired and juvenile game that most people outgrew a long time ago. But, some progress slower than others, I guess, and some not at all.
