re: Guilbeau: Orgeron does not inherit as great a program as Miles

the Tigers could sneak up and make a run in 2017, but there is not enough talent on the offensive line to really go far.
Saban's o-line recruiting was crap leading up to the transition to Miles. If Lyle Hitt and Peter Dyakowski are starting, you've got issues on the line

Exactly, hitt and Blackwell were dline in HS and ended up being starters on the oline.

And Saban inherited more talent in 2000 than Miles did in 2005. The football program today is in far better shape than it was when Les got here. Gilbeau is a Miles bashing hack.
You cannot be serious. Miles inherited the 2003 and 2004 recruiting classes that were sick on paper.. Top 3 in both years if I recall.
Saban inherited a program that had a losing mindset. It was referred to as a battered child mindset with catastrophe syndrome. Miles inherited a program 1 year removed from a national championship and two plays from being an 11 win team.
Saban had the academic center and football ops center built. Miles inherited a gold mine. Comparing Miles to Saban is like comparing a Toyota to a BMW.

How many first round OL did Miles inherit?
Stewart and Hitt were pulled from D after Miles took over. That leaves Helms, Big Herm and I guess you could include Arnold even though he was hurt much of '07 (and LSU career) as good O linemen.
Glen has the benefit of hindsight to further his agenda. He doesn't know how the OL will pan out over the next few years and should just stfu.

This 100 times. Look at the LSU 2013 roster.
Beckham, Landry, Hill, Blue, Mills, Kwon, La'el, Vadal, jalen Collins. I'm sure I'm missing people.
He has mismanaged talent 24/7. Miles typical drive:
1st down - toss dive right
2nd down - toss dive left
3rd down - predictable come back / slant route
4th down - punt
Rinse and Repeat. I was a Miles advocate but I finally had enough. You can only take so much.

Good article. Anti-Miles people will need excuses like this to convince themselves that they're not stupid.

GG is just a sports columnist, why does Gus opinion matter any more than anyone else? It's just an opinion, that's it

I hate to bring up bad memories but the clownshow on the sideline was Miles' trademark. And there was drastic improvement in communication from the first snap of the first game post-Miles.

Offensive line is the most important unit in football, and our oline is bad. We have like 10 mediocre guards and no quality tackles and probably no good center.
LSU OFFENSIVE LINE #1 DESPITE IDIOTS ON tRANT

. The offensive line he leaves, though, may be the worst of his 12-year tenure. Orgeron was reminded of that clearly in the 10-0 loss to Alabama.
There's a lot of work to do on the OL and it can't be fixed overnight because there's a talent and coaching deficiency.
Not horrible at run blocking, (They look better than they are because of #'s 5 and 7) but mostly horrible at pass blocking.
They've been consistently inconsistent in all phases OL play under JG. Why is that all of a sudden going to change in 2017? (Particularly so with the departure of your best OL and guy that makes all the calls)

quote:I'm saying the overall OL quality has declined, declined down to above average. Not poor overall. But the main point is our yearly schedule requires better than above average to do better than 9-3.
I keep seeing this about the OL yet people who get paid to judge these things and use stats rated the OL line #1... However, a board dedicated to LSU rates them as poor.

No, no it isn't.
LSU had very poor OL play in 2008 and 2009. We couldn't run block for shite.
That was due almost completely to the wet bag of shite Miles was handed in his first recruiting class in BR.
This year's OL was perhaps the best run blocking line we've ever had under Miles and definitely our best since 2011.
LF and Guice were both absolute monsters that were also running through wide open freeways outside of the Bama game.

Wow, that is dumbest thing I may have read on this board.
That is saying alot.

Yeah like GG is even qualified to have an opinion about that

Until we finally have a descent Offense line , we wont win shite. When LF & Guice can not run over people we are sorry!

Let's use Saban's 5 years here vs Miles' final 5 years. Better record in a much stronger conference.
Saban-48-16, 2 sec titles, 1 national title
Miles-50-15, 1 sec title
I will take Sabans 5 years over CLM 5...wouldn't you? also lets not forget Saban took over a losing program.

What was the relative strength of Alabama during these respective periods?
they sucked...so what. We were king of the hill when Miles took over and it took Saban 1 year to knock us off that hill...no way Saban allows that if he was at LSU
