First of all, for what ever reason, Guidry hasn’t lived up to pre season expectations on the mound. So this move is worth strong consideration.
2nd, Braswell simply ain’t cutting it at SS. 9 errors and what should have been several more just ain’t cutting it at Shortstop. His play at SS definitely has been a huge contributor in costly us 2 games! He is not an SEC caliber SS.

Yes there has to be several more moves but this should be the first!

Guidry hasnt gotten any reps in the infield this year (including winter practice), you just expect to throw him out there at SS and expect good things to happen?

They have given Guidry multiple opportunities to get reps at SS and its been pretty bad between the plate AND the field in the past. He was given opportunity this past fall and failed. He was given opportunity as a freshman and failed.

He's been focused on pitching now because he's way better at that.

Your only other options at SS right now in reality are Nippolt, Milam and Kucherak. Thats it

The coaching staff has basically told you for 2 years Guidry can’t play short and now we’re expecting him to be our guy

I thought Guidry struggled at the plate last year. Wasn't aware he struggled in the field.

For what?

So we can have a shortstop that can’t field and also not hit?

There’s probably a good reason why he hasn’t gotten any reps there.

Can I use this thread to post random, meaningless two word comments to drive my post count up? You know, like you do in the game threads?

It was a while back but he had 6 errors at SS/2B in the fall his freshman year. He wasnt sharp by any means there, which was really what pushed him to pitch because he was simply better there.

He actually hit .254 in the fall scrimmages as a freshman:

Cant find the Fall 2023 stats but he simply couldnt hit at all during that stretch which is why for winter they just moved him back full time to pitching for this year

the issue is that Braswell IS hitting

Highest BA and OB% in conference play

I mean his Ob% is .489

can’t take that out of the lineup.

SS is not the biggest issue with this team. Braswell is batting .287. As a team in general, defense has been an issue. We have a centerfielder who plays unreal defense but cannot hit a baseball if his life depended upon it. We play a catcher in Neal who cannot block a breaking ball and cannot hit SEC pitching. Lay off of Braswell, he is not coming out of the lineup

Add Guidry is not EVER gonna be a SS option at LSU. Defense is mediocre and cannot hit an off speed pitch.

I wonder if moving him over to 2nd would help, with Milam and/or Kucherak stepping in at short.

It worked out well when we did it with LeMaheiu while he was here. The only problem is that we don't have an Austin Nola glove to insert at short.

I heard Jay reached out to CPM for some advice and Hellmers will be playing there this weekend

I dont think this is a bad idea. Just shift Milam and Braswell for now. Braswell is hitting too well to take him completely out and Milam is picking things up some at least at the plate as well. At this point, you just have to start trying some things.

If Milam or Braswell dont respond well thats when you start pulling more strings with Nippolt, Kucherak, etc...

If the rumors are true about Milam struggling at SS during fall/spring practice, I wonder if they’re going to give Kucherak a chance to prove himself out there.

I agree that you can’t take Braswell out of the lineup or out of your defense. But you have to get better play at SS.

Let’s think about this for a minute…. Within months of arriving on campus as a 2-way player the offensive minded head coach decided to completely give up on Guidry being a position player and solely focus on pitching

You know it’s not going well when we are saying we can’t take Braswell out because of his bat.

to be fair, you rarely take players who are getting on base almost 49% of the time out of your lineup.

Yep let’s not act like MB3 is killing it at the plate enough to justify his defense.

I don’t care who it is: Milam, Nippolt, Kucherak, Guidry, but someone else needs a chance.
