This is a very tough situation. Greg will need care for the rest of his life. He has a long road ahead. I don’t know what I would do in this situation? I can say I would not worry about money, but the money will be needed for a lifetime of Greg’s care.

I feel sorry for Greg Brooks but why should LSU have to pay for that? They are not responsible for his tumor. This is a money grab and not right!

Well, they are alleging LSU didn't act in a timely manner which I suspect may have led to earlier intervention. But it seems like the vast amount of damage that was done resulted from the surgery and neurological events during the surgery. They'll have to hash that out in court. Prayers for GB and family and hopefully as time goes, he can find a new mission because he seems like a highly determined young man.

40 days from first symptoms to diagnosis and surgery seems pretty timely to me.

Brooks was and is an adult. This was not an injury received from playing football. The fact LSU even helped as much as they did is commendable.

Why is LSU responsible because their athletic training staff doesn't have a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in a rare brain cancer in an otherwise healthy college football player? As far as I'm aware there's no rules preventing Brooks from seeking his own medical care. The father was notified prior to surgery at which time he could have aired his concerns.

This seems like a pretty clear case of remorse instead of actual wrongdoing. It's a bad situation, but sometimes bad things happen to good people. Doesn't mean someone is at fault.

Everyone is being super nice and respectful to the family because of the situation and not calling this what it is.

What it is is what every family would do in this situation.

Our country is all about lawsuits/settlements and when you see a legitimate avenue to make a member of a billion dollar athletic organization a defendant, you'd be stupid to not try that path.

Feel like LSU could do something to make this kids future a little brighter w/out a lawsuit.

It’s a sad situation and of course there’s got to be SOMEONE to blame, go at the most $$

You guys need to go back and read everything the lawsuit initially presented. There were threats of taking his starting spot if he didn't play. I mean, yeah, of course that would be true if it were an ordinary situation, but if he was truly experiencing 39 straight days of vertigo, someone on staff should've kept him off the field. That part might be a he said/he said situation and hard to prove.

I am wondering why they immediately said the doctor wasn't qualified. I imagine you wouldn't hire anyone besides a brain surgeon to work on a brain tumor. That would be incredibly reckless and I would imagine LSU flies him out to the nearest doctor that could.

Getting a second opinion would have probably delayed the eventual surgery. I can't imagine any neurologist on standby ready to do more MRIs, especially without LSU covering it. It's not like OLOL isn't a bad hospital. LSU sped up the process and got through a bunch of red tape.

I think LSU ends up settling to help cover medical and rehab expenses. Brooks can't be on the LSU plan forever and this would be the way for the family to afford doing so.

If they're talking about after the lawsuit was filed, there's nothing Kelly could do.

It’s not when the suit was filed- it’s when counsel was retained to begin the process to file suit. That claim by Brooks Sr is likely a coached talking point to make Kelly and LSU look bad when they know full well no direct contact would be allowed once they hired an attorney to pursue this.

Let’s all judge when we know THAT date. For a suit over brain cancer, there could have been a significant amount of time preparing before filing. Possibly enough to fill the entire gap in time they are talking about.

Oh shite my bad you're operating under hyper-literal word usage on a message board... yes, I'm sure there are some families presented with that scenario wouldn't do it, but they would definitely be in the minority, by a lot.

Brooks is still the last legit safety that we’ve had. No one was taking his spot if it would’ve been a month-long ordeal.
