Honest question. How has the option for paid tailgating negatively affected your (or anybody’s) gameday experience? I’m truly curious. Like were you booted from your normal spot? The area that is reserved over by PFT is so minimal.
I was wondering the same thing? I thought the Paid Spots were minimal at LSU. I didn't know of any long time tailgating spots/groups that were displaced by these turnkey tailgate outfits.
They have caught on like wildfire at other schools with less tailgating tradition. I think the idea is fine and doesn't detract from those of us who prefer to do it ourselves. It brings more tailgates/fans to campus on gameday that wouldn't otherwise be there.

As others have said, it’s not the paid tailgating that has changed the environment, it’s the paid parking and stricter parking rules in general.
It seems like the interior part of the campus has less people tailgating every year. Granted the last couple of years aren’t a great barometer, but I’m talking the last 10 years.
There are some parts of campus that are tailgating ghost towns now but used to be packed 10-15 years ago. Particularly along South Stadium, South Campus, and Field House Drive. It seems now most of the major tailgating has been pushed to the outskirts of campus.

You must not remember how awesome it was to walk through campus before the changes. It was a massive party and the crowds were incredible. Today, they limit the number of tailgates and it’s much more sparse as you buildup to the stadium.
Yes, I remember. There wasn’t much going on by PFT. I can assure you that the paid tailgating area has zero to do with the change in the atmosphere we all miss.
Like another poster said, the reserved parking has become more of the issue.

Hard hitting tackles without penalties!

Tailgating like it used to be when the only cost was the amount of money you spend is only what you spent on food and alcohol

Tailgating across campus. When I was a student we’d park by the cow palace and walk through campus. People all around, sounds and smells. Walk through the parade grounds over to the quad and people where everywhere.
Now, only certain lots are allowed and they’ve herded all the people over to the Nicholson corridor. Which is not the same as stately oaks and broad magnolias.

I can't tell you how many steaks I've eaten at Ruth's Chris after a football game at midnight. I remember eating about 1am after a Tennessee game. Oh, and the time given for the reservation? "After the game". It was awesome.
I’m glad someone remembers Tiger Stadium before it became Six Flags over the Mississippi.
The games would start late, but didn’t last 4 hours plus. They were intense and loud, without artificial noise to keep them loud.
Eating at midnight was a college town tradition. Glad to see someone else remembered

Restaurants stayed open after games and were packed.
We may never see this again. Everything closes at 8pm now.

You're right about that. No doubt tailgating has taken a hit in the last 10 years. But that's everywhere from Alabama to Penn State.
That said, Alabama at LSU in 2018 was the single best tailgating day college football history.
Unfortunately we didn't win the game.

This is true, but it’s more than that at LSU. The last administration pushed a lot of the tailgaters out away from the central part of campus. So on a big game day you still have a lot of people in those parts of the campus but not as many tailgates.
So yeah we can still bring it, it’s just different.

This is an SEC tradition lost: I miss rotating home/home series against SEC teams you do not play annually.

I almost forgot. Now I’m not saying I liked it, but back when there were NO upper decks, smoking was allowed in TS. I remember some games where TS seemed like one large chimney with smoke slowly wafting out of it. Was a strange sight.

That’s what I was talking about, but I did attend some great tailgates at Pat Taylor back in the day.

2007 Florida! Campus was insane all day. Some of the Auburn Matchups in the early 2000s were epic as well.
I remember the first 5 or 6 times College Gameday aired from campus it was always mayhem. Especially when they aired from the PMAC Ramps!

So you’re telling me, that they would not place Mikes portable cage around the opponents locker room? Interesting…
