I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere in these 11 pages but how can depth keep you from running 4wide when you have 7or 8 WRs + Moreau and Moore. I'm almost positive you can find 4 guys who can run 4 different routes and catch a ball.

I recall LSU signed like 5 DL in 2014 though.
Every year isn't going to be a big position haul depending on need/talent availability, etc, and it's disingenuous for posters to point out single recruiting years.
We did sign 5 in 2014, which isn't a ton - certainly not enough to follow up with 2. Of those 5, Valentine and LMFAO were dismissed, Teuhuma transferred. Godchaux was awesome, he gone, and Deondre Clark is still on the team. For comparison, in Orgeron's first recruiting class, 2016 we signed 7, and signed another 5 in 2017. So 13 in 2 years under Orgeron vs. 7 in the prior 2 years.
Which leads to my point is that Orgeron is dealing with issues that pre-date his tenure, issues which he addressed immediately in his first season here. I don't know why pointing this out is considered disingenuous.

Shocker, teams don't get turned around overnight. Our 2007 natty team wasn't built on the 2006 recruiting class - the wheels were set in motion years earlier.
I will say that the most disappointing thing about State was that LSU gave up. That's totally on O and really, really disappointed me.

Come on, you are acting as if O took over after Curley rather than taking over a nationally ranked team.

Agree. Very disappointing and a lot like the Florida game last year when the team had so much to play for and gain.

247 has us as the 6th most talent team in the country according to composite rankings.
So what exactly is ed turning around? Unless he is going in the wrong direction.

Well, he couldn't really blame Bush!

Lack of depth was known before the season stsrted...why are people surprised at this? I predicted at least 4 losses thus year, but apparently I'm a bad fan for saying such things

People forget how Dinard had a two year window of crap recruiting and attrition and how much it affected Saban in 02.

Now tell us exactly where State is ranked in terms of talent so we can all see exactly how the beat the shite out of us...... (here's a hint. They aren't in the top 10)

6-6?? Are you out of your fing mind? If we go 6-6 I'll burn it down myself....

An excellent article and goes to show that Miles left the cupboards a wee bit bare.
It'll take CEO two more recruiting classes to get the program turned around.
Hopefully he can last that long.
All in with O

O will never get blamed.

Good lord. That's what you got from that? It's miles fault?
A better question is how in the HELL did you read that article and NOT see that at least a large share of the blame should be laid at Miles feet? The classes with the issues WERE ALL HIS CLASSES!!!
And then to come across the way you do in this reply is just pure stupidity.

Funny, I don't remember saying we aren't talented- - I said we have weaknesses. Also, we were ranked 2nd most talented team in 2016, but somehow we fired our head coach in the middle of the season and hired our d-line coach to lead the team. Maybe the LSU administration wasn't aware that we were ranked 2nd in the 24/7 composite rankings or something.
And I'm sure you already knew this, but the ranking is a composite - it doesn't take into account team needs, positions, etc. So we could have a roster entirely comprised of 5* deep snappers, but we'd be the most talented team in the country!

and not enough Herman Johnson's, Trai Turner's or Lael Collins.

I haven't read the whole thread, but wanted to add that the article gave me a new appreciation for what Oregeron is dealing with. He still needs to win me over with some good coaching, but I think it would be unfair not to give him a chance to bring in some players to see what he can do with a complete roster. If he can't succeed though, it's scary to think where the program will be in 3-5 years.

Yes, in fact it's miles' fault. How could you think anything else or is reading comprehension not your thing? Miles got out at the right time. The program was in worse shape than anyone imagined.

The shiny five star defensive backs and wide receivers that Miles' staff seemed to accumulate every year resulted in highly rated classes and hid the lackluster recruiting in the trenches (and for a couple of years, the linebacker position).
If you look at defensive line recruiting from 2012-2015, only two standout players resulted in a four year window, that being Hunter and Godchaux... you had other contributors, but no one really above average. That's terrible for a school like LSU who had for the previous decade churned out standout defensive linemen. It has moderately turned around with Lawerence and Alexander (who when injured proved how badly they were needed with no veteran talent behind them). The offensive line recruiting was a little better, except for the most important position on it, tackles.
Miles and company did a shite job the last four years in recruiting and developing along the lines... still, that does not excuse Orgeron for having a horribly undisciplined team that seemed to quit last week.

Thing is a lot of people saw these problems. That is why they were sceptical of the O hire as they werent sure he can fix them. Hes our coach now and we need to get behind him so he at least has a chance to fix recruiting and depth. This is our boat now time to see if she can float.
