Seriously? The Thorpe winner and arguably best Safety in the nation?

Thoughts?

I mean he was objectively NOT playing up to standards everyone placed on him coming into his junior year

That being said, he was also hurt. Someone is getting a steal if they draft him in the 2nd round

Even as an LSU fan, I gotta wonder how he won the Thorpe based on his 2019 season.

Dammit, I missed the first round of the draft. What pick are they on?

Did Miami trade up to get Burrow as was being reported?

I would be shocked if he didn’t charm the pants off of some team in the interview process and gets selected in the 1st.

Sure, he may not have lived up to “#7” expectations, but that man was a lynchpin at times during the season. One key play I recall was the long tackle-from-behind stop on the goal line against Auburn? (Correct me if I’m wrong on the team). If I’m recalling correctly, that saved a TD, which could have been a determining factor in who won that game - & ultimately the season.

he didn't. awards are dumb but occasionally they get it right (burrow/hesiman).

Playing hurt showed his true spirit... we all know his talent... it's on tape... but not having a pro day to shine is hurting him

Sad to see him slipping in the mocks, but I'm not so sure he slips to round 2

The mocks have had him as an early 2nd rounder for a minute now. I can’t believe it myself.

I said when he won that he was the 4th best DB on the team and I stand by that. I still think he was really good when not hampered by injury, but Stingley, Fulton and Stevens were all very good all year.

Stevens isn’t better than Delpit and besides pass coverage he’s better than Fulton! You can’t compare a safety to a CB either it’s not apples to apples

The God-awful angles he took often didn’t help his draft grade any.

So many of these awards are just popularity contests.

His Sophomore year was 100x better

Once completely healthy he played like an early first rounder!

Stevens has no lateral mobility at times. Delpit is better when healthy.

He won that thing based on peer respect of what he did in 18’ period.

Isn’t the Thorpe Award for the nation’s best DB, safety OR CB?

It’s a product of team needs and the elite talent at wide receiver and offensive line early. I still think he gets picked in the 20s
