Florida's obsession with Tom Petty all of a sudden is the weirdest thing I've probably ever seen in my life.

The Gators:
A) tried to troll the LSU band by having a Tom Petty tribute 4 years after his death and 4 years after there was a legitimate mix up when they tried a Tom Petty tribute the last time and LSU was the opponent.
B) LSU band does exactly what was agreed upon by UF admin, and their fans still can’t wrap that around their tiny gator sized brains.
There’s something wrong with their medulla oblongata.

I swear I never in my life had heard the name "Tom Petty" associated with anything involving University of Florida until the last 2 years.
I know he passed but why was he never celebrated or mentioned before then? The man didn't even attend the university this is just bonkers to me.

Yeah, but he might have planted a tree there, so the hero worship is completely justified. My favorite part was them trotting his brother out there as if there was some grand Petty family legacy being carried on at the University of Florida.
