Going to Round Rock Classic

The family firmed up our plans over the weekend. Unfortunately, we weren't able to secure airfare, but we'll be heading out the 23rd. We're staying at the Courtyard by Marriott off of I-35 and Chisholm Trail Rd.
Regarding Round Rock, are there any sights or places that we must see? Any particular restaurant recommendations? Is it worth traveling into Austin?
Regarding the tournament, I'm not too familiar with Iowa, Kansas State and Sam Houston State. Can any of you fill me in on these teams?
Regarding the stadium, we'll have four kids under the age of 13 with us. Does the stadium have any amenities for children (playground, etc.?)

Make sure you check out the reason why we call Round Rock "Round Rock" behind the hotel off Chislom Trail.
Quite impressive. Lol
*Also to add, depending on how busy you want to be there are great restaurants and pretty nice town up in Georgetown just slightly North of RR. Much tamer and less headache that Dtown Austin.
Obviously if you haven't been here you may want to get into some of the Dtown stuff.

You must eat at Salt Lick, which is actually located next to the stadium. Maybe not the very best BBQ in the region but it's in the top 5.
If you're into Tex-Mex hit up Chuy's. They are a national chain now but they started in Austin and the restaurant in Round Rock was one of the original 5 or 6 before they went national.
Someone upthread mentioned the Oasis; it's is pretty far from Round Rock and the food is average but the view is amazing. It sits overlooking Lake Travis facing the sunset. It's kind of evolved from a local place into a tourist thing over the years.
To answer "is it worth traveling into Austin" it depends on what you are interested in. The Bob Bullock Texas History Museum downtown is actually pretty interesting if you're into that. South Congress (and downtown) has some good shopping. The bats under the Lady Bird Lake bridge probably aren't very active yet but Google it maybe they are. And of course you can check out UT to familiarize yourself for future football, basketball and baseball games :)
EDIT: Oh, I'd also second downtown Georgetown, and even downtown Round Rock. Nice small town feel. The Louisiana Longhorn Cafe in downtown Round Rock has pretty good food (I love their catfish poboys). And don't skip Round Rock Donuts :)

We are pretty lucky that a lot of the successful Austin restaurants have opened second locations in Round Rock.
Here are some of the best right near your hotel:
Via 313 (Detroit style pizza)
Tumble22 (Nashville hot chicken)
Kerbey Lane Cafe (Great breakfast)
Hopdoddy (Famous burger place without the line)
Cover 3 (Sports bar)
Pinthouse Pizza (Pizza + Brewery. Home of the Electric Jellyfish)
Jack Allen’s Kitchen (American food)
Rudy’s BBQ (best gas station BBQ around)
Torchy’s Tacos (better than the BR location)
There’s also an In-N-Out burger 1 exit up from you, but believe me when I say it’s not worth the hype. P. Terry’s is local and tastes better in my opinion.

There is a grass berm in right field that a lot of kids run around and play in, it’s in front of the swimming pool.
There is also a virtual batting cage in right field, but I’m not sure if it needs to be reserved ahead of time.

There is also plenty of picnic tables along the outside edge, that you can use to eat at if you don’t want to carry stuff back to your seat.
For the grown ups, you can get beer at any concession stand, but the Beer Garden in left field has the best craft beer.

Is anybody tailgating at the Dell Diamond?

If you are from Louisiana, youll be very disaapointed in the food overall. You can get great BBQ and Tex-Mex, so Id just go for that.
The "better" spots are closer into the city. Round Rock is a shitty Suburb. If youre getting a rental car, id go dowtown. The best bbq in the city is Terry Blacks (right outside dtown). Fonda San Miguel is sort of centrally located. Incredible Mexican food and beautiful building. Its 50 years old this year.
Those 2 spots I recommended you will not be disappointed

Beautiful view on lake travis, but the food is awful. Maybe grab drinks not food! Its probably a 20 minute drive from RR, further West in the city

My favorite BBQ in the area is Louie Mueller in Taylor (13 miles from Dell Diamond) but check the times because they have odd hours.
Right next to the ball park is famous Salt Lick, but I don’t think it’s as good as the original location.
Southside Market & BBQ in Hutto is solid and has plenty of parking and seating.
Liberty BBQ in Round Rock is pretty good as well, and has some great apps (deviled eggs with bourbon bacon jam, “trash fries”, etc).
I’d recommend strolling around downtown Round Rock anyway, they have a free parking garage, and a few restaurants / bars to pop in to.

Probably see more non Americans there now than ever. Great place to walk around a minute take some picture grab a drink roll to Steiner Ranch Steakhouse for dinner across the street. Not cheap but great view as well facing the Hill Country.
Also a band plays outside patio around 5-6ish. Definitely recommend

Depends, how much do you loathe Baton Rouge traffic?

Does anyone know when Texas vs LSU tix go on sale or the best way to score tix to that game in Austin?
I’ve been lurking on Texas‘s website for the past few weeks and there’s nothing yet.

UT ticket office has been sold out for a while. Gotta hit the secondary market.

Great spot with excellent craft beer and pizza. I’ll be there at least once that weekend, probably Friday postgame

Just as a side note, depending on traffic over the weekend an easier route from your hotel to the stadium may be to take Old Settlers all the way to North A.W. Grimes, turn right onto Grimes down to US 79, then left on 79 to the stadium. Will avoid any I35 congestion which is usually backed up between University and 620 McNeil
