Give the littlest guy with the biggest heart his first college start

Give Henry Shortess the first and last start of his college career.
Shortess, a 5-foot-9, 157-pound junior walk-on guard until this semester when Jones awarded him a scholarship, is graduating in May. He made the decision it's time to enter the next phase of his life, whether it's graduate school or the real world rather than play one more year with the Tigers.
"I didn't expect to graduate in three years," Shortess said, "but now that has become a possibility, I think this is the right time to finish up my career here."

Shortess hasn't played in a game since bucketing that floater three days before Christmas. He hasn't played in 18 straight games, but Jones needs to change that Tuesday night and not wait until the final seconds.
When Nolan Richardson was Arkansas' coach for 17 seasons through 2000-01, he would often start a little-used senior in his last home game as recognition for his hard work behind-the-scenes. The senior would usually play the game's first two or three minutes, but Richardson would sub for him before the first TV timeout to make sure he got a round of applause from the home fans.
Johnny Jones, the ball is in your court and now run with it. Give Shortess his ultimate college moment in the sun. Place him in the starting lineup just so he can hear for once public announcer Dan Borne say:
"At guard, a 5-9 junior from Baton Rouge, No. 10, HENNNNRRRRRYYYYYYYY SHORRRRRRRRRRRRTESSSSSSSSS!"

So he wasted a timeout that early in the game?

Richardson would substitute BEFORE the first TV timeout to allow the senior(s) to get an ovation. Players can be substituted whenever the clock is stopped, out-of-bounds ball, foul, etc., not just during a timeout.

Why would anyone want to graduate in three years?

Typical response : so that he is one year closer to his big contract.
My response : enjoy the college life. No hurries.

If I could go back I'd get that 8 year general studies degree that all the "dumb" people get!

Depending on his graduate and post-graduate school goals, he may be trying to get his studies behind him and get his career started one year sooner. From what I recall he is an honor student.

Would be awesome

These are the same people still pissed Brady didn't give Josh Maravich a start. LSU has to win 4 straight games...Henry Shortess will understand. He got a scholly, played with one of he best players in the world, went to the NCAA tourney at least once, flown all around the country...he's had a pretty sweet ride for a walk on.

Can you say with 100% certainty that more bad things will happen in the first minute if Shortess is in the game instead of Quarterman?
I say give him the start.
I say give him the start.

I'm all about winning, but this isn't professional sports. This is a kid who gave a ton of time to the program while still paying his own way. Literally all this kid did was sacrifice his time for the program while being compensated for just 1 semester of school. I don't think it's owed to him to play, but I think it would be an awesome nod towards someone who embodies what a team player is. 2 minutes as a starter would be all good in my book.

Absolutely. If Jones doesn't play him tonight, that, to me, would be enough to FIRE HIM!
PLAY HENRY SHORTESS
