If you win game 1, you go all in on game 2. Whatever it takes. 2-0 is huge. So if that takes throwing Floyd/Hurd/Ack/Guidry....that's what you do.

I think this will be Johnson’s plan. Maineri used something like 9 pitchers to win the first game in 2009.

I don't think Jay will consider starting anyone besides Skenes in game 1.

I don't think it will happen, but I think if you want to win this thing, you take a deep look at yourself and recognize that you probably can't win game 2 without Skenes. Hurd, Hurd/Floyd needs to be considered for game 1. I don't think Jay Johnson will do that. He's throwing Skenes in game 1, and he's throwing the combo of Floyd / Hurd in game 2 (if things go well).

Skenes will go in game 1. He pitched against 19-40 Tulane. Your gonna be facing the Tenn/Southern Miss ace. This is Omaha, need to give yourself the best odds in game 1. In game 2 I think Johnson will use whomever he needs to unless it’s a blowout either way.

I will have to look at who their Sunday guy has thrown against and how well he has done. Highly doubt it compares to Floyd’s numbers in the SEC

I like Hurd in relief instead of starting as that's the role in which he has had his most recent success. Mainly though it gives you the opportunity to use him back to back games if Floyd goes deep into his start. Floyd has been a starter all season and I would not want to change his role to a reliever at this point, which you would be doing unless you are saving him for game 3.

Floyd started the year as a relief pitcher and threw well

Second game in Omaha, win or lose, we just have to start Hurd. He is rested, he is ready, he has better stuff. Floyd just did not inspire any confidence at all yesterday.

Lol no. He had no breaking ball and still only gave up 3 runs.

Floyd’s floor is higher than Hurd’s.

He could definitely do it. I just feel he has settled well into the role of #2 starter. I would even agree Hurd might be the better overall pitcher right now. To me, its using Hurd in a role where he is on the mound fresh in crucial moments in hopefully multiple appearances.

nothing he does is settling. Should LSU matchup with Texas or Wake Forest in a GM2 winner bracket game, those teams will have the pitching advantage over the Tigers.

I don't understand this boards constant hate for Floyd. That is another shot at Floyd. Dude has been really good for us this year, he competes and gives us a great chance to win every time he pitches even when he doesn't have his stuff. I would expect Floyd to go game 2 and either bridge the way to Hurd to finish out the game or use Hurd for game 3 depending on how close the game is.

There's no way Jay doesn't start Floyd game 2, but also, Floyd may throw a gem in Omaha if those fly balls land on the warning track instead of over the fence like at Alex Box/SEC parks. I know they say it doesn't play as big as it used to, but even 10-15 more feet and Floyd may be perfect as long as he doesn't walk people.

I don't understand folks saying we don't have the arms to win out of the losers bracket.

Ole Miss did it last year, and their pitching wasn't as good as ours is right now. We have a decent bullpen. Guidry can close. Cooper, Herring, Coleman, and Ack are all solid to give us 2-3 decent innings in a game with any of the coming in as a closer, if needed. Dutton, Money, Little and Collins can give us an inning here and there.

All of our arms are fresh. Nobody on the staff has been stressed in the tournament so far unless you figure Skenes' Tulane outing...

Why are people acting like Hurd doesn’t give up a bunch of bombs too? 5ip, 4ERs, 2HRs is praised like a no hitter for Hurd while the same or better performance has people shitting on Floyd.

I agree. I think that our BP was this teams “Weak Link” a few weeks/a month ago but now it seems to be coming into its own & possibly becoming a strength.

Aside from pitching. IF LSUs bats stay hot they can win a couple high scoring games if they need to in order to bail out our BP.

IF they “shite the bed” in a game or 2.

Are we deciding who gets to pitch game 1 and 2 again?
