I don't see how anyone could look at this past season and not think that it was a step in the right direction.
Well no one would argue 18 wasn’t better than 17. So yeah, right direction.
The question is, are we moving fast enough, are we still a step behind?
This team had the talent to go 10-2 this year, without question. We didn’t. That’s underachieving.
Same story as last year.
This program absolutely has the potential to beat any team on our schedule outside of Alabama.
But we aren’t just losing to Alabama and maybe having one more slip up. We are still losing to MULTIPLE teams that we could and should beat.
Until that changes, nothing has changed since Miles was fired.

Considering LSU was several steps behind only a step behind looks pretty damn good.

Well I obviously didn’t mean that literally.
I meant we are still behind where we should be. That’s two years in a row now (three if you count 16).

Give him a statue for a fifth place finish in the conference.

I won’t even bother to disagree here.
So we can agree that 2019 better be “huge” right?
As in 11-1 top 5ish before bowl selection right?
That would be “huge”. Finally getting to 10-2, when we already should have gotten there in 17 and 18 isn’t “huge”.
Because be honest, Earl, if we don’t get to that level in 2019 do you truly think we’ll be poised to get there in 2020 when we lose our QB, Delpit, multiple DL and OL and travel to Auburn Florida and AM in Year 3 under Mullen and Jimbo??
Is this going to go on all offseason?
I don't know how many times I have to repeat myself my expectations for next year. shite, I was saying it before anyone even caught on after the bowl game hype took off.
Outside of something catastrophic happening; Absolutely if it doesn't happen next year it will likely never happen. A 2 loss season would not be catastrophic. That is a sugar bowl berth & a flirt with the CFB playoff.

So we should fire O RIGHT NOW????????????
Of course not.
I don't believe he was the right hire. But you can't fire him now.
My grievances lie with the fan base who act like LSU is on the rise and that this season was somehow special.
If Orgeron, goes out next year and only wins 8-9 regular season games, I wouldn't be opposed to letting him go.
LSU doesn't need to be Bama or even beat Bama. They don't need to win every game, they don't need to be in the final two of the CFP every year.
LSU just needs to be competitive for the West, SEC and Playoff. If they win 10 regular season games, lose close to Bama and another good team, then I think the fanbase can live with that....because they are being competitive.
Regular seasons like this past season aren't what LSU should be striving for. Losing to Florida the way they did, and losing to an aTm team they had no business losing to. Not to mention, you can't get blown out at home by 30+ points by anyone, even if it's Bama.
LSU's potential is to compete ANNUALLY for the division, conference and playoff. Right now, LSU is, at best, a 9 win (regular season) program. That isn't going to cut it.

That's the exact same way I feel. I didn't want o as a head coach, don't necessarily want him as the head coach now, but I'm surprised and pleased that he was able to lead the team to 10 wins this year.
I only expected 8, after 15 straight years of expecting 10. And the only reason I expected 8 was strictly because o is the head coach. And I expected him to lose a game or two that we shouldn't lose.
But like you, my beef is with some of the fans who have acted like LSU had a special season this year and had been playing 500 ball for the past 10 years.
The 10 win season was good, and the Fiesta Bowl victory was nice. But it shows how watered down college football has become the past few years when a 3 loss team that finished 3rd in their division and 5th in their conference gets an invite to a NY6 bowl game.

Yeah thats generally what happens when 64 year old people get fired.

The guy you thought was the best coach ever?
Ive, literally never, called miles a great coach. Imo he isnt lsu's "greatest coach". Saban is. He is lsu's most accomplished. Your problem is not understanding the difference between accomplished and great.
Accomplishments are objective. Great is subjective.
And yes id take a having an over the hill national title winning coach over someone no one wants as a coordinator. You would too if you could remove your bias.

That crushes anything Miles did in his last few years
Crushing? You, like always, have no clue what youre talking about. We are in a year where the 5th best sec team got a ny6 bowl. Lets not act like we had this special season.
We beat 1 p5 team with less than 5 losses.
Thats epic since O is the coach right?

wrong. In 2013 they were a 10-3 #14 ranked team who lost to Alabama in Alabama, and lost to two inferior teams.

I think we are heading in the right direction. We the exception of the two close losses we are making a little progress. I think next year we get better. But I would like to see us open the play book more. We always have a brutal schedule so we can expect a loss or two. We just need to learn how to beat Bama.

I don't think that anyone is crowing about this season being the best ever. Most are just ecstatic about LSU being competitive for the first time in a while. People saying that Florida isn't very good and LSU should never have lost to them where did Florida end up?
Are they outside the top ten?
Are they outside the top ten?

Good....yes
Better than I expected....most definitely
Great....not yet. The way Canada was handled, the subpar offense, and defections (suspensions and guys leaving program for other schools or NFL) have not earned Orgeron that level of praise.

Welp who exactly is responsible to load our roster with talent? Miles left our roster on the line of scrimmage far behind Alabama. We had more kickers on Scholarship than linebackers
The fan base and local media created such negativity around Miles last two years and orgeron that we lost several key recruits in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Orgeron recruited to need on the line of scrimmage in 2017. Then went and got a QB and two kickers. Without the QB we probably do go 6 and 6 or 7 and 5.
With respect to our loss to Florida. It was our defense that let us down in the 4th quarter or that game is won... again at TAM our defense allows a 60 yard touchdown drive with only 39 seconds left in the game. Or we are 11 and 1. Again we did fumble a pass not that cost us. Hard to see how the Ensminger offense hurt us against TAM. Florida clearly beat our offensive line badly.
Actually very tired of the non stop crap about the OC and how much talent we have so that 10 wins is a given. Reality is we have less talent than Bama. Florida. Georgia TAM are right their with us. Some better position groups some less. We have clearly trailed on the line of scrimmage for several years. We have not had an all SEC defensive lineman in 5 to 7 years. Our recruiting class ratings and our nfl pipeline was/is heavily waited to skill position players..

You’re very wrong about Florida.
We took a 5 point lead with 11 minutes left, and we got the ball back multiple times only needed a field goal to win.
The offense punted, threw 2 interceptions to end the game.

The dunces won't admit that the program.is headed in the right direction until we beat Bama. Then, they will simply change the metric.
