Before the season didn't O say that they didn't bring Gilbert in to be a blocking TE?

Gronk, perhaps the GOAT TE, blocks his arse off. If he wants to be a WR then make the move.

Go watch Thad Moss again last year. He was a beast at blocking.

Thad Moss was more of a blocking TE than a receiving TE

Gilbert should have been split far on the sidelines twice as much as Moss was last year, but we almost never did it

TE get open a lot because of their blocking skills.

this isn't how modern offenses "get TEs open"

they're not a play action pawn anymore. they are integral players in the passing game that force defenses to pick the type of defender who covers them. this plus focusing on slot receivers has completely changed NFL offenses from the ones you're thinking of

Tell that to guys like Travis Kelce, George Kittle, etc.

Those are some of the best receiving TE’s in the NFL, but they still spend a lot of time blocking and they take pride in it.

Tight ends still have to block. shite, even WR's have to block. It's part of the game, and part of why Jimmy Graham became so disappointing after he left the Saints.

His blocking has improved greatly since the opener. He's averaging 4.4 catches and 45 yds per game. It's not hard to see they aren't using him appropriately.

I’d love some actual stats on his use vs other top receiving TE. It seems like he’s used a lot in receiving and often even split out. I’m not really seeing him succeed at that; no opinion of that fault is from him, poor QB play or just the play calling .

He sees himself as a freak WR. Your job is to put him in the best position to be successful and not to turn him into something else. He has eyes and sees how other TEs in the SEC like him are being featured and used as weapons and not blockers primarily.

Posted it yesterday—-the guy has NOT been a major component of the game plan the last 3-4 games. He should get no less than 10 targets a game. He should be used in various creative positions to iso him on LB’s and smaller corners. We have not seen any of this from the offensive schemes. He may be homesick , but you can book it that if he had 10 balls thrown to him per game and a td or two every week, he wouldn’t be quite as homesick.

Not to mention he’s a total mismatch and creates schematic problems to the opposing DC.

You line Gilbert out wide, you got a small corner on him, mismatch. You put a LB on him, he’s faster, and it pulls a LB away to help open up the running game.

This is just a total collapse, the likes of which I’ve never seen so fast

QB only wants to handoff!!!!!!!!!!

OL only want to pass block!!!!!!!!!!1

LBs only want to blitz!

TE does not wanna block or even help a tackle chip some? then you are not a TE and you are a soft. same was said about soft ginger jimmy graham.

you just cannot make this shite up anymore

fn shitshow

big time TE in the pro's

Dont play on offenses that are stagnant. Arik should've been targeted much more. Dude is a beast. Simple fact here is that our coaching staff isn't capable of putting together competent offenses.

huge difference in blocking well in limited roles (Kelce more than Kittle) and being used as a blocking TE (which neither are)

Kelce is on pace for 109 receptions, 1500 yards, and 11 TDs. it's impossible to put up those numbers while inline blocking at the rate Gilbert was complaining about

again, we didn't split our TEs out much, which is a great way to allow them to "block" without wearing down their bodies dealing with the bigger bodies on the LOS. sure, you want them to block well in limited roles, but the key is being limited

also, you have to remember Gilbert is an 18 year old true freshman. he's YEARS away from developing to be able to do both over a full season. you cannot compare him to a developed, mature Gronk, Kelce, Kittle, etc (aka, some of the GOATs at the position in the NFL). it's not fair

He's being asked to in-line block more because we are attempting to run the ball more. LSU was able to run-block last season we ran out of the five-wide and four-wide. It was done without needing a blocking TE.

Yeah it was, it was immediately a problem after he went to Seattle, way before any injury.

Because you have a freshman quarterback running for his life and most passes thrown he is laying on his back.

This is a selfish group of guys. It’s all about him not his team or teammates. And he’s a fricking freshman? frick him.

Gilbert has been split out plenty this season.

For people that scream diversity in playcalling as much as LSU fans do you think they would understand that you need your TE to be able to do both things in order to be the best offense they can be.
