I will take the stance of "the ole ball coach"

"its their job to score and our job to stop them..."

I dont know about classless but I did find myself wondering why he didnt save that for a bigger game next year or something.

On another note, I'd just turn to the GT fans and ask them how they were possibly stupid enough to fall for an onside kick! Pretty much a given that was coming!

Just wanted to add also, a loss or a lackluster win would not have done anything for LSU going into next year's pre-season rankings. What LSU did vs GT was more about a statement that 7-5 was a fluke and this team should be challenging for championships instead. It was also a statement that Miles DID NOT lose this team as many of our rival coaches would have used against him in recruiting the last remaining 5 star recruits that are on the fence. It is a statement that LSU deserves to be ranked in the final polls. As for the JJ deep throws with a 38-3 lead,..... maybe, just maybe it's showcasing JJ's arm to the uncommitted WR recruits OR a statement to the doubters and VOTERS that LSU no longer has QB issues and should't be used against LSU when ranking the 2009 pre-season edition of LSU.

not sure about the fake punk, but i like LSU still gunning the ball downfield despite the huge lead. specially with a young qb, it helps him develop.

I like that it gave future opponents one more thing to worry to about and one more thing to practice against. That's the best thing to come out of it.

LOL. The same people saying this are the same ones who hate Meyer, Ole Ball Coach, Stoops, and Carroll for running up the score on opponents.

Yeah, because those four guys aren't four of the best coaches in college football. Maybe there's something to be said for putting your foot on the opponent's throat and keeping it there for the entire game. I was surprised that we continued to air the ball out after that fake, instead of hitting the ground and running more time off the clock but it's never "classless" to execute a fake to perfection and get a first down.

The reason Les is a good coach is that he knows these situational gambles. Everybody calls Les a gambler, but he'd NEVER call a fake punt inside his own 30. That's the definition of dumb
Les did exactly that his first game against AZ State in 2005.

With that big of a lead it was pretty weak on our part. But, oh well....... they got their p's pounded.

Why is a fake punt with a big lead any more "classless" than trying to make a first down in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd down?

It's the LAST GAME OF THE frickING SEASON. Let the kids play and have as much fan as possible. I loved it. If GT would have done it to us, I would have probably laughed it off like "the ole ball coach did" when we pulled it on them. It's their job to stop us, our job to score. That's the point of the game.

The best part about the fake besides the fact that it worked is that it gives opponents one more thing to worry about when they play LSU.

Besides, with all the talking Tech and their fans and players and coaches did before the game about LSU not being a "worthy" opponent for them, I'm glad we beat their asses. I wish we would have hung 50 on them.

no, johnson made some rather classless comments pre-game. combined with the dirty play of their team i think they had it coming

As a GT guy, this whole class vs. classless thing it ludicrous in sports. I had absolutely no problem in anything LSU did. They showed up, played hard, and took it to us. Once the game got out of hand all us GT guys could do was chuckle and hope our team learns a thing or two. Fake punts, onside kicks, catching punts, catching passes, defending passes, tackling are all part of the game. If one team does em and the other team doesn't stop em them to hell with that team. JJ is a stud and I look forward to watching your team the next few years.

I'm not -- not in the least. Should LSU just not bother about advancing the ball because they have a big lead on the other team? It's a football game, for Pete's sake. I'm no expert, but I thought first downs were desirable in a football game.

GT fans are acting like we were somehow obligated to go three and out and just hand the football to them ASAP because we led by a wide margin.

Ridiculous.

2005 vs. Arizona State, Les' first game at LSU, he called a fake punt from the endzone that required Chris Jackson to throw.. Miles will call a play like that whenever he knows the other team has no idea it is coming.. Whether its a tie game early in the first quarter or up 35 in the fourth, Les is still coaching up the boys.

Actually, Miles didn't call that fake DURING the game at ASU. They were coached to run that ANYWHERE on the field at anytime during the game when Doucet was by himself. He had a lot of confidence in Jacksons arm and doucets hands.

Very classless of Miles. He seemed to want to prove something all game though. He had it out for someone. Maybe him and Johnson have some bad blood along their way.

Very classless of PJ to say they deserved an opponent that was ranked higher...in the freaking Chicken Bowl? That was just pure stupid. I could understand Saban saying something (and as far as I know he didn't) since a match against UT would have been far more interesting on a national level, but not PJ.
