re: Georgia Tech fans are OUTRAGED at the fake punt...

Johnson DID piss Miles off leading to the game. Georgia Tech fans may wanna get used to this. Paul Johnson is known as one of the bigger pricks in coaching, and is just a little to proud of his offense.
Here is what pissed off Miles. It may not seem like much, but word is Johnson was pretty arrogant all week when they were together. I'm getting this from someone who travels with the team:
"ASSIGNMENT FOOTBALL:"
By accident or design, Georgia Tech football coach Paul Johnson poked fun at LSU head coach Les Miles and defensive co-coordinators Doug Mallory and Bradley Dale Peveto at a press conference the day before the game. But LSU's coaches had the last laugh.
"I get a chuckle out of people when they say, 'It's really assignment defense,'" Johnson said in reference to what many opposing coaches say about defending the triple-option attack of Tech.
"When isn't it assignment defense? I mean I don't care what offense you're playing, you're in the wrong gap or you blow your coverage, you get lit up," Johnson said with Miles seated right next to him.
At the same podium one day before, Mallory and Peveto repeatedly said defending Tech was "assignment football." Miles also used the same term several times over the last month.
LSU carried out virtually all of its assignments as it held Tech's vaunted running game, which came in at No. 3 in the nation with 282 yards a game, to a mere 70 yards on 16 carries in the first half.

How didnt we score more?
Bitch, bitch, bitch. Oh, to answer your question, some critical penalties for one, along with an 18 year old true frosh QB overshooting our tight end in the end zone for another.
Bottom line: when GT got near LSU's end zone, our D delightfully found a way to keep them out. A marvelous send off for our seniors, especially our departing defensive seniors.
Bottom line: LSU dominated GT from start to finish in a way not very many people credited CLM, his staff or his players with being able to accomplish.
Props to Miles, his staff and his players, especially our departing seniors! Helluva send off!
FOREVER

I understand why GT fans would be upset over the call because I use to be the same way. I changed though when college football changed. It not the same sport where you worry about other peoples feelings like in the old days. After the smoking of the cigars on TS field was my changing moment. I was poed over that then realized all your team has to do is win and people wont be able to do things like that to you.
Bottom line is if you don't like it stop it!
GT fans should be more mad at their own coaching staff for being so unprepaired for this game!

I don't see why its classless. There was time on the clock, and Les wanted LSU to keep the ball to run it out. Simple as that... /thread.

I appreciate the information. But, read my posts on this thread... I don't know why it's directed towards me.

Maybe Johnson should have used "assignment defense" on the 4th down play.
GT was really over-confident and planned to dominate our Tigers. SORRY !!

And I believe that as well. Miles is too classy a guy for that.
Aye, Traveler, as ticked as we all were at the dismal defense this season, you still had to feel for Mallory and Peveto. Love, hate or just tolerate him, you have to appreciate the way Miles handled the situation post-Arky to this point.
It was awesome all the way around, both for the team and the coaching staff, to shut GT out of the end zone. The game is out of reach, an LSU victory is assured in the later half of the 4th and I, along with everyone else in the room, am on my feet screaming for LSU's D to stop GT from scoring, not to give up a cheap, throw-away TD, to make it a total beat down ... and the D delivered!
You just knew it was going to be a special night pretty early on, especially after such a disappointing season, all the flack the coaches and team took, especially over the last month post-Arky, what with everyone jumping on the GT
... predicting LSU would be on the receiving end of a major beat down, hearing about how GT put up 400+ yards on UG, etc., etc., and so forth. What an utterly delightful, memorable LSU win, made all the sweeter after the awful way we stumbled down the season's home stretch. Last night reminded our recruits/commits this is still the SEC and we are still LSU, 2007 defending National Champs!
FOREVER

Take a peek at their boards. They were pretty pissed at their coaches. Some gave a lot of praise to LSU coming to play.

how can scoring 3 pts in the second half be considered "running up the score"?
Posted on 1/1/09 at 9:10 am to TigersInExile
No problem. I just want the record straight to latecomers on the thread that LAOO7 has NO PROBLEM with the fake punt and that to call it "classless"... see ColoradoBengal's characterization of the folks that throw that adjective at us.

You should have stopped it.

He's preparing the team for next year. GT was embarrassed long before that. He wanted the team to enjoy the win and get them pumped for next year. Too bad. If they didn't like it, they should've stopped it like LSU did.
Maybe Miles should have called off the dogs at half time and let GT make it close, like Fla and Ga did with him.

quote:Not at all. It was brilliant and caught not only the GT special teams off-guard, but 100% of the people that witnessed it, which makes it a brilliant call.
Anyway, is anybody upset at Miles for the fake punt?

I haven't read this thread but I must say that the fake punt by us was pure genius. It was genius because NOBOBY saw it coming.
