Said he told Merrifield he really wanted him back during Vandy series last year.
Says Merrifield “might have lead the team in hitting” during the fall.
White gets hurt/infield gets shuffled. Merrifield gets 3 ABs in all 15 games.

Asked who is most improved hitter of the off season- says without question it’s Jobert.

Asked who is most improved pitcher of the off season- says it’s Bryce Collins.

Says besides Skenes—Chase Shores and Riley Cooper were the 2 best arms all preseason and it wasn’t close.

Which one do you think has proved least accurate?

He said there’s no way we can win every game by double digits. That was the least accurate.

Riley Cooper was the best arm in preseason, but now we know we can’t hit lefties; so, now everything makes sense

Don’t really care what he said. He’s clearly coached the hell out of the entire team

All of that was probably true in the preseason.

Bryce Collins is disappointing because the hype was building in the fall and spring.

It would be awesome if he could get it going again.

Pretty sure he did.

Says Jay didn’t trust the small sample size of the fall would translate. Merrifield is a great team guy that just being there makes you better. And he can play an adequate 2nd and 3rd, probably even short in a pinch and not hurt you. Probably can be counted on to come in a lay down a nice bunt even if he hasn’t hit in 3 weeks. But he just looks stiff and not very fluid. I assume Jay doesn’t think that will play in the SEC—he has a very low ceiling, and Jay wanted to use these games to get the more high ceiling guys some more early ABs to develop for the end of the season when we’ll need them most.

Jobert gets a lot of hate, but I think he does look a little better this year than last. His production is similar, but he looks more confident and is having some nice ABs. Even when he strikes out. His 2 ABs tonight were good. He’s a high risk high reward guy, and I think Jay wanted to let him try to prove his risk isn’t as high this year, that his floor is higher. Not sure he’s proved that yet, and I don’t think he’ll get as many ABs this year as he did last to have the raw production numbers, but he’s a veteran leader that will continue to get opportunities to see if he can get hot. He won’t hit 18 his me runs again, but he will hit a few big ones. And he has value as a power hitting left hander.

He was singing Collins praises almost every interview leading up to the season. He had a couple bad outings and they either lost confidence in him or he tweaked something and is dealing with a little injury that Jay’s keeping quiet. His situation is the most perplexing, because after Taylor went down, you’d assume Collins would be more important. And he hasn’t really had an opportunity to prove he can put just a couple of bad outings behind him. I would have thought he’d have gotten at least a couple more chances by now. That’s why I think maybe there’s something else going on.

Collins sure hasn't played so far like the most improved arm unfortunately . I am certain everyone's pulling for him to get his mojo back as they will need all they can get down the line.

Who the frick cares? This is the number one-ranked team in the nation. Jay Johnson can answer every interview question by singing “God Save the Queen” for all I care.

Go frick yourself.
