Would've been interesting to see what happens in 2024 if Brown catches that fly ball in the outfield. With Holman and Jump as our Friday/Saturday pitchers and the way the team was coming around, I think they could've made it to Omaha and possibly won a couple games there. I don't think they would've won it, but they could've made a little noise.

Congrats to Gage Jump!

The velo jump that he an Eyanson made since going pro tells you that as they try to keep culling the minor leagues, it's not about outsourcing development. They're still the best developers of baseball players.

It's about outsourcing washout.

ETA: He's technically getting called up from Las Vegas. The A's don't play there yet (save for a couple series in June). He's getting called up to Sacramento.

Clearly.

But for real, both Eyanson and Jump made significant strides here. It's just that they still had a lot of development meat left on the bone when they went pro.

The time limitations and emphasis on actually winning prevent the type of development that pro organizations need for guys to be MLB ready.

Even Skenes added a pitch or two before getting to the majors. And then has added pitches since.

One thing I've noticed as a pattern with Yeskie (from reading minor league reports on his former pitchers), is that he will shelve a pitch that naturally fits the pitchers arsenal and then they start using it again in pro ball and have a ton of success. I don't know why that is, or if it's even intentional. But I've noticed it in the FanGraphs reports on multiple former pitchers of his. But even still, I'm reading it on guys who are successful in the pros, so did that even set them back developmentally?

To his credit, Yeskie did develop both Jump and Eyanson. He only had 1 season, so he did a fabulous job with them and don’t doubt he would have done better had he had another year.

Yes, I’ve noticed the shelving of pitches with Yeskie too. I have a theory that he allows pitchers to develop pitches deep into the season and when it comes to crunch time nearing the postseason he doesn’t call pitches that aren’t fully developed. It’s why he’s been so successful in the postseason, only calling the pitches that are perfected.

I was kidding about firing him, I give him a pass for this year. Inexcusable, but still have faith in him.

Congrats to Gage.

The A’s appear to be on their way to winning more games than last season, though no one in that division is really playing great baseball.

I’ve wondered about that too. But it seems like he would’ve unshelved some of their go to pitches when we desperately needed someone to throw strikes to avoid getting swept multiple times at the end of the year. If there was a time to stop experimenting, the close games against MSU and TAMU would’ve been it. Not to mention the UF debacle. Anyway, don’t want to relive that now lol.

A&M just beat the brakes off of us. Ole Miss would have been too early to turn to the postseason strategy (at the time).

State was when Evans was a late scratch, that really threw off the entire series. That could have been a sweep for LSU if Evans gave us 4-5 solid innings. Likely would have had a solid lead Friday to not use Cowan. Cowan closes out Saturday, another W. Sunday we wouldn’t have completely run out of pitching in the 6th.

Yeah you’re right. I had forgotten that what we really needed that series was more out of the bats against A&M’s pitching. Looking back at it now, I’m actually kind of impressed we kept that lineup from just going in dry all three games.

It’s remarkable how we managed to always have a bad game in the opposite phase of the game, when the other was having a decent day.
