Edward is gone next season.

Watkins deserves another shot. The dude can play he is just having a bad start.

Nola has how many errors but he is still starting because we know he is a good player in a slump. Watkins should get the same respect. He is a good player in a slump. PUT HIM BACK IN THE LINEUP AT LEADOFF CPM!!!

Why? The guy wasn't even drawing walks like a leadoff man should. It's one thing not to hit, it's another to continually fail to get on base and either pop it up or strike out when you're not even giving your team a chance to do something.

I think you can tell this year how much PMs players dislike him. I find this has been overshadowed in previous yrs by winning. If you talk to current or former players, I think most will say that they don't like him.

If they don't like him because he's challenging them to get their best and they don't want to do what the coaches ask, then thats on the players. Guy has won over 1000 games. I trust him more than 18-22 year old kids.

You could apply this statement to Skip Bertman just as easily.

Very easily. Skip could be a horses arse at times.

I don't think the players have to be friends with the coach but they have to respect him to win IMO. I just don't see the respect with these players.

Do you guys think Saban's players like him? Here is the answer...they don't. However, the smart ones realize that he is a means to an end and will benefit them.

I have a good friend that played baseball in the 1990s for Delta State University in MS. They are a D2 baseball powerhouse. This friend, who played pro ball in the minors for a while, could not stand their coach - Mike Kinnison. Kinnison, as of a year or so ago, had the highest winning percentage of any coach in any male sport in the NCAAs at any division and most of his players hate him. Why do they hate him? Mostly because he is not there to be their buddy, but their boss. It is business. It is the same with Saban, and to a degree, the same with PM...I have no problem with it.

Moreover, PM is two years removed from winning the CWS. He is HIGHLY respected nationally within coaching circles. Who do you think you could replace him with that would be better?

I'm not saying to replace him. Do you realize how good that team was as a team 2 years ago? You could have put a lot of coaches in that role and still won IMO. I like PM as a coach bc he recruits well which is really what college baseball is mostly about. As a coach on the field, I think he leaves a lot to be desired.

Go look at the talent that we had on the team 2 years ago and compare it to UC Irvines that year. We were outcoached but just had a couple of good individual performances. I think he was outcoached this past weekend also.

I know some guys who played for Skip, and they hated him. They respect him now for what he did as a coach, and did for them, but if you guys think Bertman was a "player's coach", you're in fantasy land.

Mainieri is a tough coach as well. When players love their coach, that generally means he's soft and probably not a great coach. Note that I said "generally".

Edward arguably played better than Watkins last year in about the same amount of playing time during a much tougher part of the schedule. I don't get how Watkins can play but Edward can't.

Anybody who has ever played baseball, even at the high school level, knows that "player's coaches" usually fail. This may be a brave statement, but in high school I experienced three coaches in three years: First coach was great and we made the play-offs, he moved on to advance in his coaching career. Second coach was more of a "buddy" to our team and we failed miserably that year--with the same players may I. He quit. Third coach was a hard arse but we respected him and made the play-offs.

I know this is just my experience, but I believe it takes a hard nosed all, about business kind of guy to be a successful baseball coach. CPM will be fine and we will get over this slump.

Its not about being a players coach. It's about not degrading your players in public. Do it in the locker room. Name a time when the other team had much more talent than us but yet PM outcoached the other coach for the win. I cant remember it.
