What’s the O/U for SEC wins? 3.5?

Our non-conference schedule has been dick for decades…even when we were halfway decent. Playing SWAC schools and New Orleans don’t even help your NET when you win. SMU, Texas Tech, GT/DePaul, BC…none at home.

I guess when you suck, you won’t get a power conference opponent wanting to come to your place.

The only real opportunity to gain notoriety in the OOC schedule is the game vs. Texas Tech.

The OOC schedule certainly isn't good but Drake, SMU, and Georgia Tech were all postseason teams last season.

People saying we will be fooled into thinking the team is good beating up weak OOC teams. It wouldnt surprise me if they go 0-4 against the 3 I mentioned and Texas Tech so I dont think we will have to worry about being fooled by them.

When we start 5-0 the Mcmen will be here crowing. Then we will somehow start the sec 1-0 then lose the second game closely so they will still pump and then we will end up in the basement and excuses will start

No one cares about the NIT. In fact, Georgia Tech had a significantly WORSE NET ranking (117) than LSU (88). MAYBE SMU could be solid, but last season they lost to anyone with a pulse. They had 3 wins, total, vs power conf. teams with winning records. A win vs. SMU will likely generate zero reaction.

Drake was very good last season. But they lost their HC and nearly their entire roster in the offseason. Now, that also happened the year before when DeVries left for West Virginia and it didn't affect their success with a new HC/team. But it's a lot to expect a 3rd HC in as many years to come in with a completely new roster and keep that level of success rolling.

On paper, it's the worst OOC schedule McMahon has put together since his first season.

It wouldn't necessarily surprise me, but McMahon has been at least ok in early season OOC games. He's usually had LSU play moderately well in the Thanksgiving tournaments. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him get at least 1 win there.

It’s better for our computer numbers if we play the best OOC games neutral / on the road. None of those would’ve ended up being Q1 games if they were at home

Yep. LSU could have been an NIT team last year but turned it down because the entire roster was transferring.

Thought Woody cancelled basketball, as we knew it, four years ago.

Reverse History!
We can convert the basketball Arena to an Agricultural Arena.

I thought we were scrapping the basketball programs along with the new arena plans and using that money towards buy Brian Kelly's teams some execution and complimentary football etiquette lessons?

Since we have only two players back from last year are we back to year zero. I mean we had 3 returning players that year and that's what many called it then???

TBD

If this year's "massive increase in NIL spending" doesn't produce results, we'll have to circle back to previous excuses.

Yes, that narrative paints them into a corner. The funds were supposedly unearthed. First impressions of this were pretty universally meh. In a better make the tourney year - no more excuses. Year zero only works for some and I don't think it will even work for then a second time.

To be fair, I think this team WILL be better than last year. But it's not like the rest of the SEC programs collectively decided last year was "good enough" and they will throttle back their effort this season. Plus, there's no guarantee 14 SEC teams will make the NCAA Tournament this season. That means LSU could have a better record, yet end up in the same spot as they have each of the last 3 seasons...nowhere near the discussion for a NCAA Tournament bid.

Yeah Alt, but better than terrible is not what all the money was supposed to be getting us.

Absolutely. Improvement from last year doesn't automatically = "good". And that shouldn't be the basis for evaluating McMahon. LSU is the ONLY SEC program (including Texas and OU) that hasn't made the NCAA Tournament at least once in the last 3 seasons. If this year makes it 4 straight seasons I'm not exactly sure what will be left to consider with respect to the direction of the program.
