"RB Coach" is more of a recruiting position than anything else.

Analysts can now coach on-field as well. With all the money you are throwing around, the massive expansion of college football coaching staffs, it is very easy to find a way to keep Frank Wilson on staff. I am not high on him as a RB coach, but he is a closer in recruiting.

I agree with his recruiting being pretty good, but I don’t think he’s what he used to be. He missed badly on the kid from Mandeville who plays at Duke University, Nate Sheppard. We have no high school running backs committed in this class. Our talent depth isn’t great at running back at LSU right now. Our rotations have been awful and when have a running back who is playing well he will go absent for large chunks of the game.

I don't think he is, but it is easy for nuanced discussions to get twisted in the media.

If Wilson is telling defensive recruits to wait and see what the staff will look like, i think that is very fair coming from a guy that cares about the kid first. That is very easy to twist into the things being reported.

Where are our stud running backs? Berry looks decent, but we are pretty average after that.

I could see this getting twisted. It wouldn’t surprise me if these kids are hitting the pause button knowing LSU will have a huge investment in NIL money. They want to re-visit any NIL agreements.

If the money is equal, the kids will follow Frank. If you go back to the late 70’s, a large chunk of the really bad LSU years are directly tied to NOT having a NOLA based coach on staff.

It is going to be humorous to go back and look at the stupid meltdowns in a few days after all of our guys have signed and we find that the Frank Wilson stuff that has been floating around is bullshite.

You have to disassociate his RB evaluations with being able to close with other prospects at other positions. He is recruiting coordinator 1st, then RB coach.

I haven't loved his RB room since he's came back. That is pretty well documented. But Kiffin and staff take running the ball seriously. They have a plan, they have a prototype, they understand the run game and how to play off a mobile QB. I have zero worries about the RB going forward, with or without Frank.

wrong. If Texas is offering 3mil and LSU is offering 3mil, you don't think it helps to have Frank on board?

probably / hopefully - but where there is smoke there is likely fire. Smoke being a few of these kids pushing their commitment dates, I don’t think it’s nothing.

i don’t think we can call it bullshite or rumors when some of these kids who had previously shut down their recruitment are all the sudden pushing their signing dates and taking other visits.

Perhaps because we got Berry, you know, the #1 guy?

Kiffin said Frank is going to continue coaching the team. I assume that means into the bowl game.

Of course Frank has value but what is that value. It's not at the expense of undermining the HC. I don't know if any of this is true. Maybe it was the Carr coach that put these thoughts in his kids heads. Who knows. There are many ways Frank can be used by this staff but if he is demanding to be the RB coach then that is the wrong way to go about it. Hoping its all smoke. We will see but the Hall signing gives me hope that it is.

I’ve followed recruiting long enough to know how it works. Posting “inside information” on a message board is the lowest form of journalism. Even lower on the totem pole is what Blake Ruffino does. The standard at which he is held, is well, non existent. He’s a message board poster with a podcast, not a journalist.

This is a worthy story to report on with the allegations being thrown around. So if you have the facts lined up as a journalist, print it formally. Otherwise I will continue to believe the story has grown legs as it passes through word of mouth.
