our offense was still really really good and Tulane played no one with a pulse that year
louisville should have beat them ......but lsu would have run the ball at will.

Everything was clicking for Tulane that year, nothing was clicking for us. Thank God we didn't play them.

98 Tulane would have beaten 98 LSU, and I don't think it would have been close. I saw that team play in the dome that year and they beat the hell out of a Louisiana Tech team that set multiple NCAA records and had a future NFL QB, Tim Rattay. Tulane had a really good team that year and LSU didn't. It's the only year since 82 that they could have stayed on the same field with the Tigers.

At the end of the regular season, Buddy D got his Gold Sheet friend in Vegas to handicap a post season game between LSU and Tulane. Gold sheet pro called it EVEN on a neutral field.

We beat one decent team: SEC West Champion Miss State

We lost to UGA, Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Bama, ND and Arkansas, all were close battles and could have gone either way (except Arky). All the teams above went to bowl games.

Tulane went undefeated but did not play one ranked team, and the only bowl eligible team they beat was the one they played in the Liberty (BYU).

LSU 38
Tulane 37 F/OT

(Superdome)

Tulane 31
LSU 42 F

(Tiger Stadium)

I have always wondered about that. Tiger defense couldn't stop anyone after the Auburn win for some reason. Oh yea, Tepper defense. I think LSU 52-50 or something.

Whoever created this thread is fricking awesome. I don't feel like going back to the first page to find out who I was, but kudos to you, sir.

A site called whatifsports allows you to pick 2 teams from the past and it simulates what the outcome would be.

Just to see what they thought, I did it 10 times, all with Lsu as the home team and the results were: Tulane 38-23, Tulane 17-7, Tulane 42-26, Tulane 55-14, Tulane 28-2, Tulane 44-30, Lsu 34-28, Tulane 24-21, Lsu 30-23, Tulane 21-11.

98 was the only year Tulane has fielded a football team since 1982. They didn't have teams between those years or since.

This is a fricking joke. I love LSU but that Tulane team was damn good.

You people are unbelievable homers sometimes.

And I'll add, 1998 LSU was probably one of the most dangerous 4-win teams in history.

That was a fricking frustrating season. Great offense and Tepper defense. We had pure unadulterated evil beaten yet Tepper defense always found a way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Better yet, who wins in '82?

4-7-0 Tulane or 8-2-1 LSU?
You know they actually played in 82, the week after that awesome Florida State "Orange/Fog" game. Greenies won it 31-28. The Tigers were apparently still celebrating their 55-21 victory over the Seminoles the week before. One of the biggest upsets in Tiger Stadium history.

No doubt in my mind. LSU would have found a way to lose.
