mean from what I saw during his time in BR, I never saw greatness. He never seemed like much of a teammate or someone who gave 2 shits about the university. The words "Former Tiger Great" are for guys that show those characteristics IMO.
I know this doesn't mean a whole lot, but his name attached to LSU can only help. This is an example from tonight.
Jeopardy had a question about purple and gold and Shaq and Simmons, the guy got the answer rt, what is LSU.
So It can't hurt imo if people associate a good NBA player with LSU.

He may become a great NBA player, but he wasn't a great Tiger.

He never cared about LSU, never made the team better. Did he ever even attend a class? I'll never think or care about him as a tiger. Cam was much greater at Auburn in the same amount of time. At least he won something. Ben was a sorry cancer. Good riddance to that piece of crap.

He cared enough to choose us over any other school in the country and he def made the team better. We won 19 games with him on the team and 10 the year he left. I’d say that’s a pretty big difference. Don’t get confused Johnny Jones couldn’t make the tourney with 4 professional basketball players before Simmons ever came to LSU , it wasn’t Ben Simmons fault we came up short that season.

Pete Maravich wasn’t known for attending classes either.
After Pete left LSU—without a degree—he held a grudge against the university for firing Press. He didn’t give LSU the time of day the rest of his life.
If it was legal back then, Maravich would have been the first and fastest one-and-done.
Let’s not act like he loved dear old LSU.
He was here because he had to be.

So LSU put his name on the assy center. The fact is he was not a one and done-he stayed.
He was here because he had to be? Not hardly-he could have gone anywhere-he chose LSU. You're shortchanging Pete Maravich.

dgnx6, Ben being associated with LSU will mean a HELL OF A LOT over the next 15 yrs. What a lot of these "get off of my lawn!!!" tards don't get is the value of free POSITIVE association with LSU basketball. Ben will be a walking and playing RINGING ENDORSEMENT of how cool it is to play at LSU.

Glory hog at LSU!
Guess that's why he lead the team in assists and was unquestionably the best passer/facilitator on our team. Simmons seems to stir up the retard faction of our fanbase more than just about any former player/coach. I, for one, am glad he came here. He showed just how terrible and in over his head Jones was. Without him on that team we win maybe 3-4 SEC games.

I thank Ben often for bringing the LSU basketball program into some relevance. While he wasn't a superstar at LSU, his moxy is what is powering the recent progression.

quote:look, Jones was an awful coach, but if you're a generational talent like Simmons is supposed to be, you damn well should put the team on your back and lead them to wins. That didn't happen - at all. In fact, he ran away from late-game big shots (Oklahoma, Marquette).
it wasn’t Ben Simmons fault we came up short that season.

quote:well this is all kinds of wrong. Will Wade, and his insane recruiting and energy, is what's got us on the upswing. Has ZERO to do with Simmons.

Except that the association with Ben & LSU has hardly been positive. If Ben wants to represent LSU, cool, but it doesn’t seem like he has any interest in it.

Simmons-Great player...maybe
LSU--good, not great; not team player and could give two sh#ts about LSU
Do you ever see where Simmons has said anything good about or even mention LSU?
Great players: Bob Pettit, Pete, Shack, Jackson and perhaps Waters in the future.

He's made a number of social media posts expressing support for the team after big wins this year. Just because you either don't see it or don't want it to be true doesn't mean it isn't happening
