Come on. It's not that bizarre because it IS football. Pat Henry said years ago, "I know every time LSU scores a TD I get 10 more javelins for my team". So a lot lower level sport's coach knows how her bread is buttered. The message is no doubt not stated but that message is definitely well known. Plus, she has to be an absolute shitty person who has no business in coaching, at any level.

If you remove tennis, you remove female scholarships... so you will then have to remove a men's sport to maintain the proper Female to Male scholarship requirements under Title IX.

Close down all tennis for a few years then bring it back.

ETA:

Woody has to take drastic action to prevent “Lack of Institutional Control”.

Remove all tennis for a few years, revamp Title IX processes, mandatory sexual harassment/assault training for all athletes, add Title IX resources to monitor all programs, etc.

We don’t actually know whether Verge reported the text messages internally or not, and LSU doesn’t reveal these details of Title IX investigations as a matter of policy. It strikes me as a little irresponsible to assume that Verge immediately deleted the text messages and covered it up when Davis told him in the texts that the girl was reporting him to the Title IX department.
there's why the use of that text by the author seems, at the most generous, disingenuous.

Was it really deleted?
Did Davis really type it?
Did he send it if he did?
Why would BRPD release a phone search and seizure to USA Today?
Would the author, if LSU released texts to USA Today, just assume deleted if she couldn't find it, IF it never happened?

Again it is way too perfect in regards to "proving" that there is an institutional/systemic problem at LSU to be uncorroborated and relying on too many assumptions.

BUT, IF, big if, Verge knew in April, and Davis was not suspended in April we have a problem. Period.

Author says it is proof and done deal. I say there's too many questions left unanswered and the text, the foundation of institutional issues, is one of those.

True, but that girl being beaten was HER player. Besides it obviously being the right thing to do, she puts her job on the line by not reporting it. It just seems like there has to be more going on.

We also don’t know the exact wording of the text. I think Verge is a good dude so I give him some benefit of the doubt. Maybe it wasn’t as clear as “I punched her and beat her up” like people are insinuating and was more vague.

Idk

Sounds like Sell is straight up trash and fricked rightfully so.

That explains the ongoing lies, but not the initial lie. But maybe you’re on to something. Maybe she thought the first allegations were untrue, so she didn’t report them. Once more allegations came in, she realizes holy shite these are true, but now if I report them I’ll lose my job.

I mean 4 months probably isn’t going to make or break the program.

From what was allegedly said Idont if you have to suspend Davis because he got into a fight with his GF. Now if they knew he was really just beating the shite out of her, it’s still not great. It’s the years earlier prior abuse that concerns me. If LSU knew about that and let it go on that’s really fricking bad.

Absolute biggest concern is if The Sells are going to come out and say their marching orders were to bury it.

That would be a Baylor level cover up type thing.

Is there a reason why this is any different than what happened at Baylor a few years ago? Just curious. I didn't do a whole lot of reading about their problems when they had them with Briles.

I just read everything on this. Regardless of whether the Sells did things right or wrong, Jade Lewis showed extremely poor judgement staying in the relationship with Drake.

If I were a coach, I'd investigate, document and report everything reported to me as a CYA if nothing else.

Take this stuff to the BRPD, not the coaches. BLM will prevail.

If this is my daughter telling me this, I would immediately know if she’s being truthful or lying because I raised her and know her character. That said and if true:
-No possible way I’d sit back and wait 3 to 4 years for results.
-If I called and personally spoke to the coach voicing my issue, then she released a statement stating she didn’t have any knowledge of the complaint, let’s just say she would no longer be the Tennis coach at LSU.

I don’t know all the facts and I certainly believe our justice system gets things right exponentially more than wrong, but this whole thing stinks and regardless is a bad look for LSU as a whole.

I cant believe Julia Sell came out yesterday and said she was never made aware.

After I read through all this and processed it a little this is where I'm at.

1) What happened to Jade and her teammates never should have happened. No one, not a single person, should be crediting her credibility in my eyes. In fact anyone she calls out should be shitting themselves. It saddens me that no one, not a single person in that athletic department, helped her and her teammates.

2) Drake Davis should be sitting in Angola for at least 10-15 yrs.

3) Julia Sell is a god damn idiot. Either she didn't ask anyone, like a lawyer, what she should say or she asked the wrong one. Doubling down on a lie where someone credible has proof of the lie is never a good move.

Once there was the first complaint, by anyone, that she either sat on indefinitely or even delayed by a little bit she (Sell) was liabile regarding Title IX reporting requirements.

Why even delay reporting it, even if coach felt it was untrue? At least report it correct? What fear is there reporting that? It’s one random football player, you report it right away and he gets kicked off the team, or arrested, than how does LSU get in trouble with anything? Instead they hid or didn’t take seriously and now there are huge issues. So even as a tennis coach, and needing LSU football to do good to reap the benefits, it’s just one football player, report him and go on with your life.

I would imagine having a Title Ix complaint that one of your players is being abused is less than ideal

Im sure its not a fun process, im sure it cant help recruiting, team focus, etc etc

Thats no excuse, but there are reasons, albeit bad ones, why its easier to simply try and ignore it

Bruh

It’s not like it makes money for us. Likely lose money on coach salaries for it. They can just maintain the thing in the meantime.

Women’s tennis is definitely fricked
