Echoes what others have said in that he is an NFL LB. Highlighted that part of the issue with transitioning to the 4-3 is that your LBs (especially MLB) have to cover a lot more ground, which requires them to be a little better in space/coverage.

Sees Clark as more of an edge rusher.

This critique makes a ton of sense because a lot of your upperclassmen are going to be heart-set on their positions, but we all know that a fundamental change in defensive scheme — like going from 3-4 to 4-3 — means different roles (and different demands) for certain position groups.

IMO we should have seen this coming, and re-evaluating your personnel without being married to position labels looks like the only real chance they have to get significantly better in coverage.

Would love to see it — not sure if the boys will take to the idea though. Clark might be open to playing outside, but everyone knows Stevens really wants to play safety.

I heard him on the radio and he is correct. Can we please make him defensive coach? If he can see it why can’t the coaches? This is aggravating.

Totally agree with Stevens, but I don’t see Damone being able to play edge at all. Tackles would get their hands on him and he wouldn’t be able to disengage. Stevens could be a game change at Mike. Sadly don’t see the coaches pulling the trigger there though.

I think it’s less of this & more some sort of promise was made to Jacoby. Correct me if I’m wrong but I wanna say I remember hearing something along those lines out of the rumor mill.

Jacoby is a ridiculously bright/level-headed kid, but I know he has a lot of pride as a safety & is close with some guys who were role models for him at that position.

I’m really pining for this because he is a great candidate for a defensive QB/leader + that’s what you want your MLB to be. Big brain & has spent most of his career observing the field from a bird’s eye.

Like I said, I’d love to see it. Think it could give them a shot to pull this thing together. There’s no lack of talent out there.

Clark was great last year... the only explanation for such regression is that he’s not in the right role. I’ll defer to Beckwith on this one because it’s obvious he knows the game a lot better than me

To put it bluntly, we are not deep with safety talent. Cameron sucks, Jacoby isn’t a true safety and is bad in coverage, Hampton is talented but not ready. Harris is being hung out to dry and it isn’t his fault, he feels he needs to cover more ground than he actually should.

Really, it almost seems like we have no choice but to play Jacoby at safety, otherwise I think we’d have seen him move by now. Our safeties are terrible in coverage.

Yep. Wonder how going from 4LBs to 3LBs affects the LBs responsibilities... everybody’s yelling about QBs, but this is the conversation we should be having lol.

I’ve been screaming this for a long while now. MLB or weakside I don’t care just get him at LB.

Who will play safety?

And who will convince Stevens to try MLB at this late date in the season?

He’s embarrassing himself at that position. He won’t be drafted as a safety. His only chance is to play LB.

However, I must point out that even in run defense he made several mistakes. He may not have a position at all.

Not just anyone can play MLB. Again it takes a special type of physicality/mentality that you cant just gain in 1 week preparing for Auburn. He could potentially play outside but his tackling has sucked too. I say we put the freshman white, Sampah, Web in and let them develop for the future. At least they have experience playing the position in highschool.

frick promises. He was given plenty of play at safety. It’s O’s job and responsibility to the team to put the best guys at their best position to help the team. If that position is MLB for Stevens, he needs to be at MLB. He’ll get over it. And if he’s prideful about it, he needs to grow up

Idk, he isn’t playing great at safety lately but we have seen him ball out before closer to the line. I think he has what it takes, but he just isn’t playing with confidence because he’s out of position + the guy in front of him is too so... just a thought.

As far as who will play safety I feel like we gotta at least have some quick/agile cover guys & at this point I would take a corner at S before watching us get lit up over the top any more lol.

The best point made is that it would be tough to just pull that out against auburn... but we do have a BYE coming up JS

All of the safeties look bad and confused.
