RIP Black Jet. Loved watching players like Willie, Dewayne Scales, Rudy Macklin, Greg Cook, Howard Carter, & Ethan Martin back in the heyday of the Deaf Dome.

RIP,

Willie Sims was a very talented player who was an important part of those tremendous Tiger teams of the late 70s.

Him and Tari Easton are probably two of the best players that came off of the bench

Willie Sims was introduced before the game as part of the starters--all 6 of them. Willie was sent in at the 5 minute mark and as previously stated, the crowd went crazy cheering.
The 1981 team was an exciting team to watch with fantastic nicknames.
Sad news.

Sid Crocker was terrific announcing the lineups and he always introduced Willie as the " Best 6th man in all of college basketball." Those were great times for the loyal basketball fans who were there during the Incredible Climb to the Top.

It was such a simpler time and the connections between the players and our fan base was special. The players were not jumping to the NBA after one year and we could watch these talented players growing up over their four years in the program. The Astronaut was the only one to leave early and he stayed for three years. So different from the revolving door of today.

He was very good and fun to watch.
He and Ethan Martin ran the "Four Corners" to run time off the clock towards the end and not give the opponent enough time or possessions to mount a comeback......

What great memories of “The Jet” Sims. As the 6th Man, brought instant energy and speed to the team. And wow, could he defend…would be sniffing the jock strap of the opponents best scorer…shut him down. Those 77-81 teams were special. May his memory be eternal.

I was at that Final Four in Philly and was at those tournament games in the Superdome with the record breaking crowds. Great times. He was one of the best.

When Rudy cut his hand, I knew the team was in trouble in Phillie. Rudy’s inside play was a thing of beauty. Before he injured his knee, he might have been the best inside player for his height, I’ve ever seen. He and Scales could both flat out go get it.
Rudy just had a knack for timing.

This one REALLY STINGS for me personally. I remember him as a young Tigah when I was first starting to keep up with sports, especially LSU football and basketball.

My parents took me to a few games in both sports, but I primarily kept up with the LSU team's games on 1150am WJBO in BR. I also listened to Astros and New Orleans Jazz games on that station many nights.

I remember the bald guy that NEVER played (Gus Williams I think), hitting two FTs with no time on the clock to win at Ole Miss. Many nights listening to these guys play: Andy Campbell, Al & Tree Green, Tyrone Black, plus Willie Sims and the GREAT Tigers like Rudy, Ethan, Scales, the Cookie Monster, and HI-C.

I hope Willie's family finds peace. Just another part of my childhood, and a GREAT TIGER gone.

Very sad - way too young. RIP, Willie! Thank you for being a part of the Purple and Gold nation.
