I think Yeti's point was that Freeman didn't inherit as loaded of a roster as Les did.

That doesn't mean ND shouldn't be at least 5-1 right now, but even their fans thought the Irish were overrated to start this season with games against Ohio State, Clemson and USC.

Why would you not try to build off of what Kelly did? Especially when the OC is still there and the current HC was on the staff as well. Of course he has to do his own thing to a point, but it is foolish to try to revamp the whole thing.

He is Bob Davey 2.0

Everybody outside ND could see this.

The internal promotion to HC is usually a recipe for disaster.

Not sure I agree with you there, since the overwhelming sentiment I heard was that the coordinators were the reason for ND's recent success, and they stayed behind while the old curmudgeon holding the team back left for LSU....

It just seems lazy and it’s usually someone other teams of equal caliber wouldn’t go out and hire. I hated when the Saints did it after Payton

He can't say that because of the results, so the only thing he is left with logically is to say it needs to be rebuilt.

ND the last 5 years with Kelly:
11-2 (1 loss when Freeman coached bowl game)
10-2
11-2
12-1
10-3

Freeman for 2022 season: 3-3
Not the start a lot of ND fans expected.

Somewhere along the way the official narrative shifted from "this laid back young players coach is the key to unlocking Notre Dames potential that's been held back by the grizzled old Brian Kelly" to "this was always going to be a rebuild year for Freeman to get his program right. Kelly left the cupboards bare"

Lol I guess so. Let’s rebuild this 10-11 win team into a 6 win team.

My Notre Dame buddies think if he loses to UNLV and Syracuse (who is good) and doesn’t win one against a bigger team to make up for it that there could be fireworks.

At the very least Tommy Rees will be fired already, but Freeman could be in trouble. I called bullshite but man, that would be hilarious.

Let us not forget Freeman told LSU yes to our DC job at dinner, shook hands on it, got on our private plane back home and leveraged us for more money from Notre Dame.

This makes absolutely no sense. The ONLY reason to hire Freeman with such a lack of experience was for the sake of continuity. Clearly that short-sighted rationale didn’t even play out like they expected.

I never got the Freeman hype. First time HC isn’t an easy task.

Big difference in DC vs. HC. I know he was a hot, trendy name but was surprised they made that hire. He's in way over his head. When he's canned, their AD should be fired too for hiring him. He should have had to pay his dues as HC at a smaller school before getting such a big gig with zero HC experience. That's on the AD.

I hate this phrase. I know what you meant, but what you should say is he needs to get more experience. He doesn't owe anyone anything.
