It takes a long time to find a good fit for a program like LSU.

Look at Nebraska: Tom Osborne retires and Frank Solich is fired after winning 10 games a year. They went downhill with Bill Callahan. They have recovered under Bo but they are nowhere near they were in their heydays.

Look at Tennessee: They fire Phil Fulmer, one year after winning the division. Look where that has got them. I can not remember when they last went bowling.

We were very lucky to have Les follow Saban, especially when Saban left (Christmas Day 2004) and most coaching jobs had been filled. But let us see our history before that. No coach has survived more than 5 years at LSU other than Les and Saban, Les perhaps more so because he followed Saban

Would anyone have fired Mike Archer, if they knew how Curley Hallman would turn out. We were in the wilderness for the next 10 years, with only three winning seasons in 11 years.

Also every hiring was a risk. Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn were Sun Belt coaches when they were hired by Auburn and Ole Miss. Dan Mullen was a co-ordinator when Miss State hired him. These programs had gone through a number of coaches and adversity before the right fit was found. For Auburn it was Chizik, for Ole Miss, Orgeron, Nutt etc and for Miss State Croom. These programs have taken risks and stood by their coaches through bad losses.

Also remember this is a high profile position and hiring someone takes incredible leadership. Football and the program was an integral part of chancellor Mark Emmert's strategic plans for advancing LSU. When Saban was hired, Mark Emmert showed great courage and leadership.

When Saban was hired at Bama, Mal Moore showed great leadership, waiting for Saban through several public denials by Saban when Moore was under tremendous pressure.

If Emmert had been at LSU in December of 2004, I think Emmert could have convinced Saban to stay.

Skip did the best he could when he hired Miles. I think it was a good hire.

From what I have heard of our present AD and our present chancellor, I am not sure if they have that kind of leadership to buy out Les's monster contract and offer another blank cheque to a named coach.

Give Les a chance. I think Chavis given a couple of years might turn the defense around. If we go 4-8 or 5-7 Miles might move away from his offensive philosophy. That is our best bet.

I just want the impossible: Les to adapt to the changing football world around him.

I don't want les gone, rather I would like to see some position coaching changes and some bends in his philosophy.

There is no easy fix here.

"If Emmert had been at LSU in December of 2004, I think Emmert could have convinced Saban to stay. "

That loss was all on Skip Bertmann. And the man told me the Manieri was the best coach he had seen since Saban too .........

"From what I have heard of our present AD and our present chancellor, I am not sure if they have that kind of leadership to buy out Les's monster contract and offer another blank cheque to a named coach."

Both are gutless puppets.

I've been a big miles fan but this is pretty bad. I get that we are young esp at QB but I lost faith the offense will ever improve that much unless there's another happy coincidence of getting a talented QB transfer and some NFL WRs

I for one believe in giving Miles some time imo he has earned it. We are a very young with a bad offensive line. We are going through some growing pains. Hell, losing 18 underclassman has caught up to us.

UT and Nebraska are not comparable situations, he demise of those programs goes beyond coaching

And will morons stop with the "guys it could get worse!" shut. That's not an acceptable justification for accepting the shite he current staff is feeding us

Les is Les. He runs the same bullshite year after year after year. Doing the same thing and expecting different results = insanity. Les will be running a power I formation into the future no matter who the quarterback is. He is stubborn to a major fault. He even expressed the need to change after the Mississippi State loss--- but more of the same bullshite.

It would be easier if Miles would let the OC be an OC (I know each OC we get isn't calling the toss lead or whatever we call it over and over and running up the middle from I and bunch formations). Miles can be the face and personality of the program (which he does well) and occasionally botch the clock situation as he sees fit (which he also does well). Miles has been good overall with hiring good coaches, so Chavis can improve the D or Miles can make another move there. If Miles can do that, we might not have to look for a replacement and we could all be relatively happy (as happy as miserable people can be).

But Miles has no sign of letting go of his play sheet that has the three plays on it.

He will have next season to fix the problems. If he doesn't, then cut him loose.

Same for Chavis. The defense has been bad for the past 2 years. LSU can't afford to give him a few years and hope that he "might" be able to fix the problems on defense.
