The CFP rankings aren't event out. How can we lose the #1 ranking when both polls have us at #1? Are you a CFP insider?

It’s a fact. Those teams are ranked in the top 10 when they played. You guys can be nega Tigers all you want to, but you’re giving Ohio State more credit than they deserve right now.
so if a team was no. 1 and we beat them the first week of the season, but that team went on to go 0-12, would you still claim we beat a no. 1 team?

It matters where a team finishes, not where they start. For example, Miami was a top 10 team last year when we beat them, but they went on to lose 6 games.

Using your thought process, if they lose to Ohio State, those 3 teams will drop in the polls and likely not be in the Top 10 in the final poll that decides the playoff.

If Ohio St beats Penn St this week they will not drop completely out of the poll and assuming they win their last game they would still be top 12 probably. The later in the year you get the more “accurate” the polls. It’s none thing to beat #10 in week 12 that drops to say 13 than to claim beating a team that was ranked #10 in the preseason.

Look at it in reverse. Say you open with Oklahoma and they are unranked but best you. They finish 12-0 ranked #1 that’s your only loss, think the committee is going to say you lost to an unranked team? Would you?

I assume They won’t keep beating their opponents like they have been

They’re doing that to teams like Rutgers who is 126th in scoring defense and 127th in scoring offense

In essence I really don't care if we are #1 or not. We just need to make it to New Orleans for our "Home Game". Nothing else matters if you ask me.

I’d rather play Oregon/Utah or OU/ Baylor than Clemson first

of course you're correct. It matter where a team finishes, after seeing their entire body of work.

This. Ohio state could finish the season beating 3 “actual” top ten teams.

LOL, Dumbass they won't be all top 10 if they lose to Ohio St.

And Clemson's defense is much better than Bama's.

But they wouldn’t drop completely out of the poll and would probably be at worst a top 12 win. do you not see the difference between that and a team that finishes 7-5 but unranked ?

It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.

I’m happy with LSU #2 now as long as they’re #1 to finish the season.

Being number 1 will be huge, it decides not only where we play but who we play... there will be 3 really good teams in the playoffs and one not as good as the other 3... 1 vs 4 will be huge this year... let Clemson and Ohio State play each other first... hell, neither has played anyone all year... they should be made to play each other considering who weve played..

They will have played 2 SEC teams

The “eyeball” test should not trump resume, if Clemson loses a game they should probably be on the outside looking in, but we shouldn’t completely ignore it either, anyone with a brain can watch Clemson play and realize that’s a damn good team. Yeah their schedule is bad but they are slaughtering everyone, that’s what you should do as a good team playing bad ones

I think they'd use our defensive woes to bring us down to 2 under OSU.

OSU plays 3 top 15 teams to close. 9 Penn St, 12 Mich and the 11 Minn/14 Wisc winner.

I think we need OSU to lose one to get the top spot.

ETA: there is a whole thread about this now.

Dude, don't be an idiot. Clemson and Bama played the same A&M team. Clemson held them to 10 (when A&M was ranked highly and had everything in the world to play for). Bama gave up 28.

LSU is the only other team Bama has played in the top 50 in scoring offense. Clemson has played Boston College (33) and Wake Forest (41) and held them to 7 and 3 points, respectively. Clemson defense is objectively better than Bama's.

Cause if we are #1 and happen to lose a close one to GA, it wouldnt drop us out of the top 4.

You are counting 6-4 Texas as a top 10 win and Auburn who could finish 8-4. Penn St is #9 right now, Michigan is 12 in the AP and the Minnesota Wisconsin winner could be in the top 10 by the time the B1GCG is played

It is tough to say a 8-4 Auburn team without asking what would Penn St, Michigan, Minnesota, or Wisconsin end of the year record if they had Auburn's schedule????

If they destroy those teams then they would deserve to be number one. If they are close games then LSU may hold on or they may not.
