Win Dixie? Seriously?

I remember SS Larson hitting 2 or 3 HR's in one of the games, that was a great time in this state when 3 teams representing Louisiana came together each year and sad it doesn't happen anymore.

They used to have a big set up for baseball cards and memorabilia. As a kid, I think I spent more time running the ramps and looking at cards than I did watching games. It sucks that the new dome configuration doesn't allow for baseball.

The Superdome also had MLB Spring Training games in there.
saw the Yankees v. Orioles there
ETA: turrble venue for baseball but a lot of fun, there was a huge seam that ran across the infield between the mound and the plate, and it wasn't flat, like a speed bump

It was a great event. Lots of baseball to get the season started.

Found this old stub recently. LSU’s last year was 1999, they didn’t play this year.

not sure why they quit having it.
LSU didn't get compensated adequately for giving up the 10,000 tickets sold per game for a weekend 3 game series at the Box to play in the dome where 85% of the fans attending were LSU fans but LSU had to share the ticket revenues proportionately with the other teams.
Go scalp more of your tickets on the Ticket Exchange....

These were lots of fun, as has been mentioned, nine games of baseball over three days. I remember the 1996 version the best, although I forget who the hell the opposition was.
UNO went into extra innings, which put the LSU game back a couple HOURS. My dad had had his second stroke two years before, and my bride was six months pregnant at the time. I kept trying to get him to leave because she was home and emotional and getting beyond angry at me (she could NEVER be angry at him) game lasted until midnight and he would. not. leave.
Caught hell for that one.
Late '70s through the early 1990s there were major league spring games every other year or so. Quite a few years it was the Yankees; 1988 was the A's and Dodgers, trying to remember if José Canseco made the trip...1989 the Red Sox came I was in the Quarter with a Sox jacket on and I gawt stawwwpped by a Sawx fan telling me he had just seen Eddie YORE-ack (Jurak) inna bah just down the street.
It COULD be a pull-hitters park, the lines were 318, but dead center was 421 and the ball bounced crazy off that fuzzy concrete.

During the Busch Challenge they would also have 11 yr old all star teams from the surrounding area play games in the dome before the college games started. It was one of the greatest memories of my youth to get to play on the same field before LSU vs Ga Tech. After we played we got to watch the games with all you can eat hot dogs and all you can drink cokes. For an 11 yr old that was the life??

They quit because of $$$$; The Dome can no longer configure for baseball.

I remember going as a kid. The memory that comes to mind is Chad Cooley smacking a homer against USM back in '96.
Before the internet, ESPNU, and the SEC network, it was the means by which I was exposed to LSU baseball.

In the early 2000's, when Tulane had good teams, the LSU/Tulane games were pretty intense. It seemed like every game was a pitcher's duel.

I remember seeing the A's play somebody (Dodgers?) in a dome spring training game. The dome sets up OK for baseball.
I was at that game too with my Dad and two uncles. What year was that? All I remember was I was very young, probably 4 or 5 years old, so I would guess '90 or '91. But it was my first pro baseball game so the memory stuck with me.

Yep. I played in one of those in '89 before the LSU/Oral Roberts game. I was at HC at the time and Pat Garrity was a big deal to me because he went to HC and was from Chalmette. I'm from Arabi. I watched him and Gary Hymel kill balls in bp. Also got to watch Ben McDonald, Chad Ogea and Paul Byrd throw an inning each. Tookie Johnson and Garrity signed my glove and i remember getting mad at people when they would touch it.

It was when the A's & Dodgers were loaded:
A's:
Big Mac, Conseco, Eckersley, Ricky & Dave Henderson, Dave Stewart, Walt Weiss, Willie McGee, Rick Honeycutt, Harold Baines, etc.
Dodgers:
Kirk Gibson, Orel Hershiser, Eddie Murray, Jose Offerman, Willie Randolph, Mike Scioscia, Fernando Valenzuela, Jose Vizcaino, Terry Wells, John Wetteland, etc.
That was a lot of fun. One of my friend's dad growing up was a team doc for the Saints so we got to go on the field and catch bp. I had a wrist band from Jose Canseco that I kept in a safe on my dresser as a kid.
