It was awesome you could spend all day at the dome watching baseball. LSU would get a huge crowd guys would hit balls into the club section. As a kid I always looked forward to it.

I was born before the 1970's but I think I can still answer your question because I went just about each time.
Back then, UNO, Tulane and LSU were all good baseball teams. I went to the games played in the Superdome. It was a great weekend of baseball. I wish we could do something like this again.

The Superdome also had MLB Spring Training games in there.

It was great....not sure why they quit having it...the dome
works well for baseball
They use to play a couple of pro baseball games at the dome...wish that would come back as well....espically if it was the ASTROS

It was great, I wish they would bring it back in some shape or form. But I don’t that it is possible with the current configuration of the Dome. Maybe do it at Zephyr park since it will no longer have a tenant.

Busch Challenge and Winn-Dixie Showdown became a clash of Louisiana vs. other states.
Over the years, teams from Mississippi, California, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina made the trip to the Superdome for this annual showdown. It attracted some of college baseball’s best teams, including Miami (Florida), USC, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Cal State-Fullerton just to name a few.

1991 was my favorite...

LSU beat Miami and Florida and lost to FSU.

One of my favorite memories though was watching UNO beat Seminoles in front of about 1500 people in the massive dome. Eduardo Perez (Tony Perez 's son and now ESPN analyst) was stepping into bat. Some middle-aged UNO yat screams "Hey Eduardo! Who does ya taxes? Pete Rose!?"

Wish we still had it. It just doesnt mesh with today's culture.

They quit having it because LSU could make more money playing home games at time of the season.

Today’s crowds would get to see lots of strikeouts, weak grounders to the infield and lots of lazy fly balls.

Tulane and UNO couldn’t carry their weight. Does UNO even have a baseball team anymore?

It was an awesome event and atmosphere. I don't know if it was Bertman's idea, but it brought a lot of attention to college baseball.

I’m pretty sure when they remodeled the dome it can’t really be set up for baseball anymore.

I remember Johnny Tellechea parking one in the left field chair backs to beat #1 Florida State.

I was sitting 3rd base side and lost track of the ball when it went behind the inflatable Busch can.

I remember seeing the A's play somebody (Dodgers?) in a dome spring training game. The dome sets up OK for baseball.

It was awesome for me. My dad would take us every year as kids. To me, it was the golden era of LSU baseball.

The dome was terrible to watch baseball in. But the games were always a blast.
