LSU came in at 9-8 and just 1-5 in the SEC, tied at the bottom of the 10-team league. Dale Brown's team was on the 18th day away from home in the past 23.

Far from a consistent team all year, the Tigers were not the type of team at the time you'd have expected to make history against a decent Wildcats team in from of over 23,000 but they did just that on national television January 18, 1987.

Of course this LSU team ended up one missed Nikita Wilson jumper away from making a second straight Final Four appearance despite 15 losses.

Remember it well. Maybe the biggest asswhipping of a decent team that I ever remember LSU administering. What I did not remember was Al Michaels doing the play by play.

LSU put them away in the second half when Nikita Wilson couldn't miss.

Great run in the tournament that year. I played against Nikita Wilson in high school once. They beat us by about 30.

Refs were scared to give Knight a Technical. I remember screaming at the TV.

I try my damndest to not be that refs screwed us guy.

But believe me when I say this. If the final 5 minutes of that elite 8 game in 1987 against iu had ben properly officiated, we most likely would have cut down the nets in NOLA the next week.

Didn’t we blow a 40 point lead against them in that time frame?

76-41. You would think someone would have posted the score by now.
