You've got like 3-4 food halls within walking distance...Finn, Lyric, POST, Bravery, Underground...I'd go to the POST first.

Hiway Cantina (EaDo), OG Ninfa's on Navigation or El Tiempo on Navigation for Tex Mex...or uber over to Candente in the Montrose (this is my favorite Tex Mex in the city).

J Bar M is closest for BBQ (EaDo), otherwise uber to Truth, Pit Room, Pinkerton's, Loro.

Rodeo Goat for buger (EaDo).

If you want nightlife...go the to the bars on 19th or 20th in the Heights.

Also, the owner is the son of Ninfa's original restaurant I believe.

Grandson.

Tons of good options, many mentioned already, if you like live music while you eat and drink I like the Rustic on Polk.

Ragin cajun restaurant and I second Papadeauxs

Why would anyone from Louisiana travel to Houston and eat Louisiana inspired cuisine?

There’s a ton of other places to try.

Biggio’s right across the street from the park is a cool place.

Cobo’s Que right past 59 in East Downtown (EaDo) has a bar feel to it but the limited menu tastes like delicious home cooking and can have limited run food specials that are frickin amazing as well.

Two great stakehouses downtown are Vic & Anthonys / Guard & Grace

Happened to walk by Frank's just now on the way back to the hotel. Stood in line for a slice, ate it outside on the sidewalk, so good I had to wait in line to get another slice. I love those kinds of pizza joints.

Papadeaux’s in the Convention Center, damn good restaurant!

What a stupid fricking, terrible recommendation. Pappadeaux's is good if you're at GRB for a convention; that's it.

Why would he travel to eat at a crappy Cajun knockoff

It’s not crappy. Pappadeaux’ is a chain, but they do a very nice job. It is that double rarity - a good chain restaurant and a good cajun restaurant outside of Louisiana.
