The AD is the football coaches boss! If these rumors are true about Kelly's drinking problem and that he spent the bye week on a beach and Woodward wasn't reading him the riot act then poor little Woody wasn't doing his job either. Why didn't he have something in Kelly's contract that would cover these kind of things? Wouldn't you expect him to be present in his office or on the field the entire football season? It is only 5 to 6 months after all with a 10 million dollar a year salary. If I had been given a guaranteed income like Kelly I wouldn't be working hard either. Hell fire me and let me have a paid vacation for the rest of my life.

So we mad that Woody didn't put provisions in BK's contract that restricted him from drinking an adult beverage and taking a vacation? I'm sure coaches would love that clause in their contract. Woody should have hired a full-time babysitter? These are some serious reaches.

Also, we have some serious misunderstandings between the dynamic between AD and HC if you think the AD is "reading him the riot act" everytime he hits up 30A and drinks too much wine.

Letting him hire the next football coach would be the dumbest thing possible

1) Chris Petersen - never coached again
2) Jimbo - no longer coaching
3) BK - likely done as a coach

Woodward hires names. They havent produced for him in 3 tries

Letting him hire the next football coach would be the dumbest thing possible

1) Chris Petersen - never coached again - on his own accord.
2) Jimbo - no longer coaching - who cares?
3) BK - likely done as a coach - maybe? So what?

Also, we just leaving out Sark to maintain a point?

Well, I give a shite about basketball and your erection for the AD is strange. He totally goofed up the Kelly hired. He just went with the big name. He is paid turn over every stone, which he did not

So much for university “alignment”

I just hope the MAGA governor doesn’t hurt LSU’s standing and ability to lure top coaching talent going forward.

Everyone is all excited but we are in a dangerous position. It wouldn’t take much with these politicians in the governor’s mansion and on the BOS to plummet LSU football back to a decade or more of the dark ages with an Auburn-like 3 or 4 bad coaching hires in a row.
Agreed, we are seriously playing with fire right now with the possibility of sliding back to the pre-Emmert/Saban days when the pervasive good ole boy political rot kept this university/athletic department in the gutter.

Yes, and revenue has done nothing but go up. You guys really don’t know what you’re talking about and are just parroting things you’ve read here.

This is reactionary.
Hope it works out.

Left out Sarkisian.

Pitching Petersen as a bad hire at Washington is certainly a choice.

I like how you chose not to respond to any of the other part of his comment that made complete sense.

As I pointed out, he is on "vacation" half the year so why should he be allowed one during the season when the team is preparing to play another game.

If Kelly is a full blown alcoholic, and I am not saying he is because I have no knowledge of this. Then it would definitely affect his brain even when he wasn't drinking. I have worked with them and been friend with people who have trouble with alcohol and know this to be true.

Yeah

Sark wasnt a name when Woody hired him. And he was an average coach at Washington -- 34–29 / 24–21 (in conf)

From that point on SW went and found "names" that didnt pan out

* Petersen left coaching after losing all 3 major bowls he appeared in
* Jimbo was even worse -- 27–21 in the SEC
* BK was worse than that. Not a single major bowl, and no ranking that would have gotten him in the playoff system. Even with a Heisman QB

Which means Woodward was getting worse each time he selected a football coach

He doesnt need to do it agan

Woodward became AD at Washington in 2008. At the time, Ty Willingham was entering year 4 as coach of the Huskies. They went 0-12. It’s hard to go winless at a power program, mind you, the Huskies didn’t schedule a non-power opponent with the exception of BYU.

Woodward hires Sark. Three games into ‘09, Washington is 2-1 after knocking off top 5 USC, only UW loss is to LSU in the opener when they played us close. You can argue Sark didn’t work out, but they had a winning season in 4 of his 5 years. When he took over, they hadn’t made a bowl in 6 years.

Enter Chris Petersen. Here’s what he does:

8-6
7-6
12-2
10-3
10-4
8-5

In that stretch, they win 2 PAC 12 titles and make the CFP.

Given the dumpster fire that was Washington under Keith Gilbertson, and Ty Willingham, on what planet is Chris Petersen a bad hire?

On the planet where the PAC10 is a dying conference, and once he got outside the conf, he couldnt win the big bowl games

He realized his limitations and stepped away after an 8-5 season. Within 4 years Kalen Deboer was in the NCG. And then Bama took him

Same sad story we see with Kelly. Severely limited. Cant win when it counts. and was headed to likely an 8-5 season or worse

Kelly was a good hire at the time. Maybe Woodward could do better at contract terms and $, but I really don't know. It seems you have to pay up if you want a big name, and sometimes it doesn't work out like Jimbo or Kelly.

Tried warning you all. This is going to be a shite show, and no coach in their right mind is coming to LSU with Landry running LSU athletics, which is exactly what is happening.

Do not care about Jimbo, that was A&m. He screwed up with BK and it's obvious to everyone.

I agree. That doesn't mean you let your old school corrupt arse governor take over your athletic programs. Nobody is being pragmatic and understanding how bad this is going to turn out. It is hilarious.
