The fact he got as many years as he did being as awful as he's been is insane.

This is like when the rockies or marlins fire their manager in baseball, like that's the problem.

Maryland is dead last in the B1G in both revenue and spending and Locksley apparently had no offset language in his buyout

Maryland firing their coach is not a catalyst to open up that board unfortunately

He definitely got more than plenty of time. Bottom line is he isn't a good head coach... his stint at New Mexico was probably one of the worst in CFB history which culminated with him actually assaulting an assistant coach and then his kids were always in serious trouble doing hoodrat shite (I think his son was murdered IIRC)...

Firing him on a Wednesday feels strange - wouldn’t you want to make that move as quickly as humanly possible to give the new staff as much time as possible to sort all the details out ?

Yeah def strange timing. But then again these are the same folks that hired him in the first place.

Didn't they fire his sorry arse last year and then said nevermind you can stay? Am I remembering that correctly?

Mike Locksley's son, Meiko Locksley, was fatally shot on September 3, 2017, in Columbia, Maryland.
Key Details of the Case
• The Incident: 25-year-old Meiko Locksley was found with a single gunshot wound outside a townhouse on Harpers Farm Road in Howard County. He was rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died.
• Status of the Investigation: The homicide remains an unsolved open investigation, though police do not believe the shooting was random.
• Obstruction Conviction: In March 2024, John Willie Kennedy Jr. (age 46) was sentenced to six years in federal prison for obstruction of justice after pleading guilty to lying to a federal grand jury and investigators about his whereabouts and actions during the shooting. No one has been convicted for the murder itself.
• Reward: The Howard County Police Department offers a $30,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest and conviction (tips can be sent to 410-313-STOP).
• Aftermath & Legacy: Meiko had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in his early 20s. A post-mortem study by Boston University revealed he also suffered from Stage 1 Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) linked to contact sports. Following his son's death, Mike Locksley expanded mental health resources for his football players, and his wife, Kia, has spoken out about the risks of youth tackle football.

They're going to try to hire Indiana's OC or DC by Thanksgiving.
