Ali Gaye, Damone Clark, and Ed Ingram killed us the entire night. Hurts even more when it’s the guys you expected the most from (besides Clark). Gaye can’t set an edge to save his life. Ingram was just terrible everywhere. Damone was same old Damone getting lost in the shuffle and staying back thinking plays were going to fall in his lap. Crazy’s that it’s not even progression but digression is what 3 of our mains players put on display. Pitiful

Idk what film you watched but Ali Gaye and Damone Clark we’re not the weakest at their position at all.

Bug Strong and both of our starting DTs missed gap after gap.

Also Major Burns had a terrible day

Ali got more pressure than any player too

I suspect you did not watch "film"...and don't even know what it is. Like many of the posts on this board, you're just repeating something you've heard.

Film refers to the All-22 View that coaches and scouts break down.
I suspect you just kind of casually watched the TV broadcast. There's a lot there to break down or form an opinion about, but...

Did you break the film down? Just curious to see what your thoughts are regarding what went wrong and who could show some improvement?

Good post, I 100% agree. They give #18 consistently to poor players.

There was also about 5 holding calls that should have been called on UCLA.

They need to play as many of the youngsters as possible this weekend. No loyalty to upperclassmen.

Ali Gaye cannnot set the edge. That was his problem last year, that’s his problem now. If that single problem was fixed he’d go from a 7th rounder to a 1st or 2nd pick. It’s such a glaring problem that all teams do is run the ball off the end against us!

No, I didn't watch the All-22.

In terms of what went wrong, various different things. On Offense, it starts with the O-line. Breakdowns in protection, some because of UCLA blitzes, but sometimes guys were just getting beat one on one. Run blocking was atrocious. I wouldn't even really be able to give Davis-Price a grade in that game because of the way the O-line played.

You can tell there was an emphasis to come out in the 2nd Half and run the ball. Dellinger was in there at TE. Davis-Price had his longest run on the first play. Some success running, then Max threw the interception.

Max didn't play that well. I think him and the O-line were unprepared for the UCLA blitzes. That's more of a coaching issue. The O-line problems go deeper -- recruiting, development, etc.

Boutte and receivers looked really good at times. They could have balled out with UCLA blitzing like that, but too many issues with O-line and QB.

On Defense, the D-line flashed at times, but I think kind of underwhelming. I think they're capable of more, but I'm not as high on the potential of the DEs as some are. There's so much talent at DT that I'm not sure Evans should even be there. I think it would probably help the team more if he was playing center.

The LBs weren't great. Made plays at times, but not consistent. Gave up big plays on the ground and through the air. They're going to continue to make plays. There's potential there. I think it's just about consistency, and reading plays a little faster. Run blitzes might've helped slow down UCLA RBs, but run support from the safeties is a major problem.

The secondary had a bad game, except for Ricks.

They watched film Sunday and came up with some drills to fix all the issues. You just wait and see. It was that easy.
