re: Final 4 topic on SECR got me thinking, what’s your favorite LSU Final 4 run?

1986 with Blanton, Redden, Vargas, etc.
John Williams was the best player on that team. He was so silky smooth on the floor for a bigger guy. BUT the engine was Derrick Taylor. He ran it all.

Good recap.
Loved the ‘81 team. Can still hear Greg Cook slapping the ball on a rebound.

'86 for me. Cinderella team that should have been in the Finals.

Easily 1986
This.
Horford leave/gets kicked off midseason. Nikita Wilson was ineligible for the spring. Chicken pox. LSU barely made it into the tournament. But they got to host the first round in the AC (no "PM" at that point). They beat Purdue in OT and 3 seed Memphis St. on a buzzer beater. Then to follow that up by beating 2 seed Georgia Tech in Atlanta and 1 seed Kentucky to go to the Final Four was incredible. That run essentially changed the NCAA Tournament as it went to all neutral site games two years later.
1981 was a great team that seemed inevitable to make the Final Four. 2006 was a team you just expected to lose in the NCAA Tournament at some point, but kept finding a way (until the Final Fourt). But the 1986 team was a shock to everyone

'86 was so exciting.
Blanton hitting that shot and running down the court waving his arms.

I was only 7 in 1986
I was 8, and I remember the ‘86 football and baseball teams that started a few months later. Well, I probably don’t remember much of the ‘86 baseball team until the postseason. Basketball has always been my 3rd favorite sport, but I’m surprised there’s such a gap between the 1st football and baseball teams I remember and the 1st basketball team I do, which was probably CJ’s freshman season. He’s still probably my favorite LSU athlete ever, despite basketball being my 3rd favorite sport. I was absolutely crushed when he left after his sophomore season. That didn’t seem to happen back then.
All that to say:

2006 is my answer.

Don't forget Anthony Wilson's buzzer beater to beat Memphis, too! PMAC went WILD!

1980-81 is my favorite Final 4 Team, but the previous year is my favorite team, Cook, Macklin, Scales, Carter and Martin, with Sims, Hultberg and Mattick(before he quit) coming off the bench,i 80-81, Mitchell replaced Scales and they should've won it if Macklin doesn't hurt his finger vs Wichita State.

1981 was the most disappointing, because they should have won it all. 2006 had so many extraordinary guys, but 1986 is my favorite. I was in the student section for the first 2 rounds, and then couldn't believe when they beat Kentucky after losing to them twice earlier in the season. What a ride they gave us!

2006 by default bc only one I was alive for lol.
But man, we physically beat the hell out of Duke in the Sweet 16.
Everybody remembers GT suffocating JJ but big baby and tyrus made dukes AA big Sheldon Williams look like a JV player. That number one overall seed Duke team was so athletically inferior to LSU that night.
Big Baby’s 3 against Texas to ice the Elite 8 game will also always be remembered.

2006 has been the only one that I followed closely as it was happening, and I was working a contract gig in Louisville, KY surrounded by UK fans the whole time.

86, without a doubt. 81 is in the conversation bc it was the first time (in my lifetime).

1986: my very favorite LSU team. It seems that team faced so much adversity the whole season, with Nikita's academic eligibility, the injuries, the pox virus. They were the underdogs who simply never gave up, and for 8 1/2 halfs and 2 overtimes were well-nigh invincible in the NCAA tourney. What a TEAM!
2006: great team who overachieved
1981: simply the best LSU team of all time
Honorable Mention: 1987
