Never heard this tidbit before, is it true? From Death Valley Voice:

quote:

For Ole Miss, the good news is you'll get four zeroes as LSU will have to pay a $250,000 as a fine for rushing the field which gets paid directly to Ole Miss.

It's withheld from year end conference payout. So $250,000 will be withheld from LSU and allotted to Ole Miss instead.

It's ludicrous to give that money to the opposing team! What could possibly be the reason? Give it charity or some good cause if you're going to do it alt all!

The fines haven't worked to lessen the number of field storms. The thinking is that funneling the money to the storm victim may give the crowd pause before the next storm.

(I doubt it, because most storming fans are tanked out of their gourd and don't give a rip about the fine, much less who it goes to, but they figure they have to try something.)

To punish the offenders? Would you be nearly as upset if it went to a charity instead of the opposing team? Would you be less likely if you knew you were helping a hated rival?

And which charity? Imagine if it went to the ACLU, they are a charitable organization.

How many fans does it take to be considered "storming the field?" 100? 1,000? We could get enough ranters to dress in opposing team colors and go to road games to rush the field and get LSU its money back

But in all seriousness, if one person runs on the field, they get tackled and arrested. No fines for the school. If 10,000+ rush the field, law enforcement is overwhelmed and just says "frick it" and the school gets fined. Where does the line get drawn?

The next time it happens, LSU has to pay $500,000. So if we beat Bama and the fans rush, we give Bama $500k. The moral of the story is to act like you've been there before.

It’s just stupid to think that anything will stop a mass of drunk college students from storming the field.

Do you think they’re going to stop and think “wait actually if we do this the university gets fined and it goes to Ole Miss. Let’s not do this.”

I believe the fine is technically b/c the school failed to keep people off the field. I think having to face a $500k fine, the school will be better prepared for the possible rush against Bama.

Not just Bama, it’s $500,000 for any future incidents. So if they rush the field next year or two years from now it’s $500,000 each time.

Maybe if they line the student section with 200 State Troopers that first line might have second thoughts but not much less than that.

Ole Miss had to pay us $100K last season for their field rush in Oxford. This is the second season that rule has been in effect, in terms of having to pay the opposing school.
