You hire the BEST person available.
And Joe Brady was the best person available just like Steve was the best offensive coordinator available.

Which I guess Is better than riding a broken offense till he’s fired.

That it is. I will give you that. But that's why so many people point out it doesn't have to be just Miles vs O. Just because LSU got rid of that shitty option (riding the broke offense with Miles) doesn't mean they have to settle for a mediocre one(changing the offensive identity each year until something works with O).

Yeah O is flip flopping.

Orgeron soon after his hire:

quote:

“I do believe that nowadays, you have to run the spread offense,” Orgeron said. “You have to have dual-threat quarterbacks that can run the ball and throw it. You have to have somebody who knows how to run it.”

Ensminger's introductory press conference:

quote:

While Ensminger didn't give any indication about what his offense would be called, he did break down what he expects to run. "I think we have to put three and four receivers on the field," Ensminger said. "I think we have to be an (run-pass option) team. I think we have to be a more fastball team. I think we have to go no huddle. That's the direction that we're going.

I don't believe there's been a great deal of philosophical change, it's just taking a long time to get there. 9 new starters will do that to you.

The upside of the trial and error method is you might find something that works.

It’s been called the worst kept secret in the program. Steve is retiring and Joe will take over after he gets some experience calling plays and the like.

Why does it have to be a secret?

Or most people understand that when a coach isn’t in demand for a position for two decades it usually says it all. I’m not saying he’s terrible, I’m just saying he isn’t the answer to bringing LSUs offense to a championship level.

"Career" GA? The guy graduated high school in 2008. Then went to college for 4 years. You try to make it sound bad that he was a CAREER GA when it IS REALLY A GOOD THING that he was hired by a professional football team just 4 years into his very short career.

. Oh cuz that sounds so great. "Don't worry if I can't do what I was hired to do(fix the offense) for the first couple years. I'll just keep changing what I do each year and eventually I'll figure it out." Yeah that just spews confidence. That's the type of attitude every company owner looks for in his CEO.

If there's an actual legitimate process involved.

He's half-assing it. The whole-assing way of doing this would be to go out and get the OC that wants to do exactly what you want to do, and let him do his job. I'd like someone to tell me why that's so difficult.

He instead wants to get his friend then force an offense on him, probably because he thinks a proven OC might try to take his job eventually. It's probably why he took Canada out at the knees the second he got on campus.

This whole thing makes no sense to me. Joe Brady was hired to be the OC in waiting, and could take over as soon as next year, yet he has never called plays and had never recruited before(has he signed anyone to date?). But yeah the plan is for that guy to be our offensive coordinator in the next one to two years after being mentored by our current mediocre offensive coordinator. Meanwhile we're competing against offensive coaches like Mullen, Fisher, Moorehead, Gus, Saban(Four of these guys coached a Heisman player FWIW). And this actually sounds like a good idea to some people?

Optics of hiring a completely unqualified candidate to assume playcalling and OC duties at a program reeling for competent offense?

By showing him everything that goes into being an OC...

The prep, the process both during game, after game, Pre season, practice etc.

SE can be a good mentor, don’t over think this

Make no mistake, I think LSU is going to be really good next year. I think they go 11-1 with the one loss to Alabama as long as they don't have a repeat of the 2017 kicking game. Last year the team was a couple plays away from being 11-1. They will be improved this year and ready to truly compete for the SEC West.

I just don't buy the Joe Brady is the answer and amazing OC in waiting hype. LSU will win 11 games, but they're not going to be pretty like they would be if LSU had a top 15 overall offense.

They were also a couple of plays away from being 8-4. When you dig into the offensive performance, it was dreadful in SEC play and even worse against top defenses. The thought of handing it over or using it as a tutoring session for a glorified GA in 2019 or 2020 is mind boggling, but I guess this is the new normal.
