I listened from a suburb 20 miles northwest of Chicago. My great-uncle said that he used to listen from Detroit.

This is awesome. I love these stories. I still have this old Sony handheld radio with shortwave that was my dads. Ive had it for 25 years.
I listened to Troy Twillie intercept Auburn in the Bring Back the Magic game while in Texas. Listened to plenty of LSU baseball games in the 90s on that thing. I remember Todd Walker crushing A&M in COllege Station in the 9th.

Heard a Saints game in Atlanta...I jokingly put it on the station pretending I was going to listen and it was clear as hell.
I had no idea why it was working but we caught most of the game. Crazy...

Sorry, I might be the too young, but how would you pick up WWL's AM radio station in Virginia, or Nashville?

Turn your am dial to 870. It clearer at night and when the weather is good. You'll easily get it Nashville at night.
