Fire the guy that put lsu in this expensive position.

Simple. Fire him/them.

if you're going to make a statement, just endorse Miles and say you feel he is a great man and coach. You don't come out and say, he's mainly being retained to save face before going before the legislature. Seriously, what moron in the PR office allowed this statement to go out?

He knows exactly what he's fricking doing, he's flexing his nuts and saying "I won't give you what you want until we get funding."

LSU Football is being used to push a political agenda, same shite as ever.

How does not firing him change anything? It would seem if people really believe what he says they believe then it hurts us in the budget process. People now know $20M from donors is out there ready to be raised so why get it from the state.

The vast majority of people on Louisiana know that the LSU athletic department gives money back to LSUCK academics.

King is about to get a hard lesson on what perception really is.

Again. Someone has to go ask these athletic boosters for the money. And as "independent" as TAF is, Rick Perry still works with Alleva & Alexander on major fundraising priorities.

You're kidding yourself if you think the Foundations don't involve the senior leadership at the University on major donor activity and priorities.

Why couldn't they just have a press conference with Alexander explaining to the media and national audience that LSU paid $0 for the coaching change that was 100% financed by private donors unaffiliated with LSU in any official capacity?

It would take 5 minutes. Wouldn't even had to take questions.

Just control the narrative. PR 101.

What a fricking moron. This is what he needed to say:

We all met and for a number of reasons decided Miles is the right coach for our football team."

This sends the best message to recruits and doesn't make him or the other idiots involved look like jack-asses.

“We don’t need to go into the next legislative session with a black eye that we’re throwing tens of millions of dollars around on issues that aren’t associated with academic progress.”

How can a university President be so f*cking stupid?!

It should be noted that he kind of, sort of vetoed firing Miles.

Unless I missed it, I see nothing about how Jimbo was on the hook but Alexander nixed that.

It looks like this ended before it really even got started.

This is the problem, Golfer. A man in his position is supposed to look past perception, to recognize the reality. That's what leaders do.

I personally know people living in BR who still think the football program is funded by the university. When I tell them that the athletics department annually gives money to the university, and not the other way around, they don't believe me. And these are people who actually graduated from LSU.

I also think FKA is kidding himself if he thinks he can tell rich people what they can give their money to and what they cannot. Surely this is starting to piss people off.

I love all the business, political, and media experts in this thread. Plus the people who know exactly whats going through the big boosters minds.

Agree with that. Was he drunk when he gave this statement?

Or maybe he's an avid reader of the Rant and was disappointed that the melt threads were finally dying off.

That is absolutely the worse interview I have ever read. Until this point I've only thought Alleva needed to be fired. I now firmly believe Alexander needs to be fired as well. These two men have no understanding of how to handle the situation of Les Miles. They have zero skill set of how to handle this type of high profile coaching decision.

This debacle was so embarrassing for LSU.
