Wow, so pretty much he is saying that they didn't keep Les because they think he is a great coach and can right the ship. Other coaches will have a field day with this on the recruiting trail.

We are perpetually stepping on our own dicks.

just don't get it. Why does the President have the power over the VP of Operations. Why have the VP of Operations?"
-That's essentially what you're saying. A little clearer now?
You hire a guy to do a job. Let him do his job or he's useless. That's what I'm getting at. Why have an AD if you don't let him direct the athletic programs?
All this sounds like a big lie. Again either way LSU just showed incompetence. Yeah the money might be too much, but it hasn't changed since 2012. You knew what the buy out was before this shite show.

Maybe this will encourage people to vote for legislators that will actually try to help them. But blaming F King for this is ridiculous. He's the President. He shouldn't be fired for vetoing us firing the football coach.
King should be fired for opening his mouth. This is a dagger at the football team's recruiting and should not have been said.

Who has the ability to force Alexander out of his current job? Governor?
The BOS hires and fires the Pres, perhaps not without pressure from the Governor since he appoints them with approval by the Senate.
Keep in mind that according to Alexander, "many" BOS members were present and participated in the decision.
The same money issues will exist next year as has been pointed out. If the BOS decides to approve a firing after F. King spoke out on this year, they will all look pretty silly.
While I was okay with Les staying another year, the manner in which it was done and now publicly confirmed reasoning etc... just caused more damage to everyone involved. Someone needs to reign in F. King before he's allowed to speak publicly. Unless the year is stellar, there are more problems. I'm hoping this statement doesn't cause more damage to our current recruiting.

I'm not a Miles supporter but Jesus Christ how do you say that stuff? How is he supposed to recruit?

Perhaps we need to look at who really controls the athletic program at LSU. It all starts with the State Government, not the boosters or fans. In addition, LSU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) as an academic institution--not an athletics institution. The hierarchy--as I understand it--is The State Legislature/Senate/Governor at the top, then several tiers of authority down to the AD. Their priority is to ensure that LSU excels academically and prospers in that light. Take away the athletics program, and the University can still survive; take away the University and the athletics program disappears--and the NCAA cuts off all the LSU programs. Without the academic umbrella, many of those who post here would have worthless diplomas.
It is absurd to have a set of donors or boosters totally control a facet of the University as has been mentioned in the numerous threads on TD. If there can be control of the Football team by donors and boosters, who is to say that some group cannot come in and buy out LSU and transform it into ISIS U. or something like that? LSU was a strong academic institution before athletics and will continue to be even if ALL the programs have losing seasons. I personally believe the right decision was made, but the media tried to usurp control over the LSU system to make the change. Wisdom is known of her children--let's let wisdom reign instead of emotions.

What a nutsack.
When you have to package a decision with all that drivel, you must think it was a shady decision.
A man would have said. "In my opinion, it was the best decision. Bye."

It is not unusual for a handful of supporters to exercise significant control over University matters, especially where the schools have limited resources.
Look at how Bobby Lowder embarrassed Auburn.
At La. Tech ONE supporter makes all these decisions...

i'm glad Miles will be back. blaming him won't cut it. but he still got a message to "wake the frick up". get your head out your arse. do it or leave. every year we want to win a national title, period. bama does so can we. i don't know much about recruiting but winning will improve it. and lets teach a pro style offense

This is so condescending. What the frick can they say in a legislative hearing about what a private donor decides to do with their money?

And we are going to trust these morons to pick our next football coach in the future.
Heard on the radio today that Miles is feeling invincible after this failed firing and is more defiant than ever. He will probably keep all his current coaches and double down on doing things his way.

F. King Alexander vastly underestimates the direct correlation between LSU's national prominence in football and its effect on recruiting.
Look at Alabama's undergraduate admissions since Saban arrived and look at LSU in 2008 following our national championship.
I came from out of state and I'd be lying if I didn't say I originally started looking into LSU as a result of being familiar with the football program's success. That wasn't the sole factor by any means, but it made me aware of LSU living 500 miles away.
This kind of reminds me of what Miami went through with Tad Foote.
He's not going to ever admit that the football program is a major driving force behind admissions growth. It's all about academia.
Of course this is an academic institution we're talking about here, but this guy has to know where his bread is buttered.

I called F King 225-578-2111 and the kid that answered said he was swamped. I left my # and a message that he screwed us out of getting jumbo. I know he wont call back.

If this is true, it was true before they starting looking for a replacement. So why drag LSU through the mud? Bottom line, the leak killed the deal. There would have been no push back, governors' call, sentimental good byes and definitely no change of plans - without the leak causing the swell.
