I can’t wait to see how Baker uses Perk this season. I’ve been watching his highlights from his first two seasons and he’s just an absolute freak. He actually put up a decent statistical year even with House’s malpractice. And after a year at ILB, his skill set is likely much improved. I’d be scared shitless if I’m an opposing QB this year.

While this is true, he definitely was in the wrong position in many of the schemes the defense was running last year.

With Baker at the helm, here's to hoping the mental part of the game catches up with the physical dominance he has shown at times.

To be fair that was the case for most of the defense

Are you telling me that the DL is not supposed to line up 2.5 yards off the line of scrimmage?

I wouldnt think a ILB is a primary pass rusher... ILBs are generally janitors, they clean up everything. The top tacklers in the NCAA are generally ILBs. Take this with the thought that I have no idea what Blake Baker will do with him but I do suspect he will bring a lot of pressure from various spots.

That would be me.

Someone, anyone, explain what our scheme was from last year. We hear that word thrown around so much, yet no one can ever tell me what our scheme was.

Secondly, the same fans who use "HE WAS USED WRONG", still haven't gone back and rewatched the games and focused in on Perkins. Yall act like he just stopped blitzing one day. What most of our fans fail to realize, we dropped him back in coverage mainly, because his blitzes were ineffective.

Perkins only skill set for the last 2 years has been speed. And that worked out great his freshman year because teams weren't prepared. They had no film, and didn't understand what his strengths were. That wasn't the case from last year, and teams SCHEMED against him.

Look at Ole Miss. Because Perkins is only skill set is Speed, when he did blitz inside he tended to get picked up and bullied. So then they blitzed him off the edge. What did Ole Miss do? Well they ran the ball at the hole Perkins was lined up at because he didn't stay there and ran to the edge.

Perkins has to develop more, and gain some strength. I'm telling you guys, go rewatch and just pay attention to 4. He was getting bullied by TEs and even RBs all season. Yall remember watching Maason get bulldozed by Mizzou but no one recalls seeing Perkins 20 yards downfield fighting for his life being blocked by their TE.

I love Perk. He can be great. But he's too small, lacks strength, and needs to develop something like a swim move, spin, or bull rush.
