I'm sure they do that's the whole point....

I sat at a table at Catholic where only the guys who weren't from Baton Rouge sat, we were looked down upon for not being from Baton Rouge, Did I whine and complain about it and write a book....No. I chalked it up to growing up and learning lessons and being the best I could be. To act like blacks were the only guys persecuted or mistreated at Catholic is a joke. Everyone went through hardships and being made fun of ....its high school but, I forgot everyone today is the victim instead of taking personal responsibility for your own actions and making things happen instead of expecting it to happen for you.

The point was the socioeconomic class of the private school white kid. I should have worded it differently.

They make it sound like Catholic is heart of the ghetto. I wonder what this writer would have said about Holy Cross' location in the 9th ward. That was a rose amongst piles of shite.

Who started the special treatment Catholic or Derrius? Derrius didn't recruit Catholic. You have no issues bending the rules to win football games...

Don't put words in my mouth. I hate recruiting, but Catholic didn't ask me for my opinion.

Well known athletes get them for free basically in exchange for shout outs on instagram or twitter. Their recommendation is more valuable than the money for the tats.

Love this kid.

Last year, I got the same feeling watching him as I did with a Freshman Mathieu. I CANNOT WAIT to see him run… way more excited than I ever was with Fournette. Not to detract from LF because he is special, Guice is on another level mentally when he grabs the ball.

Ask Jim Tressel how much he likes that

Were you there in 1998 when there was the classic "white out" black history mass? Brando had to call a special assembly. That wouldn't make me feel to welcome would it.

No, I am sure they didn't say it to his face they did cowardly shite like that to let the black students know how they felt. I laugh at my fellow white alumni who are so quick to discount Guices experience. Let's ask Jermaine Hatch, Tasmin Mitchell, Travis Minor.... they might have a different perspective than you on the matter.

The biggest issue for black kids at CHS isn't racism, I never once saw that occur in my four years. The biggest problem for them is the public schools they come out of are so shitty, it's like they're trying to jump a couple of grade levels freshman year to catch up to their private school classmates. Between that, and the no-nonsense discipline used by CHS - which is a stark difference from life in public schools - it is definitely hard for them to adjust. It's a new world, and I admire them for sticking with it and getting as much out of the school as they can. None of that is of their own fault, and I don't hold it against them because they're not idiots, they were just let down by the shitass EBR public schools.

It's also no fault of the white kids for not knowing how to relate to kids coming from homes with bars on the windows and one parent at home. How the hell is a 14-year-old from Country Club of Louisiana with a surgeon father supposed to relate to a kid from north Baton Rouge? He's damn sure not going to go hang out in that area for experience. It's just two very different lifestyles trying to mesh with absolutely no guidance on how to do so.

For the myriad of issues CHS has to deal with when acclimating so many different backgrounds, they do one helluva job, even if it takes a couple of years for it to really work.

Grateful for the GT program being based in the inner city in BR during the 80s.

Just wish my fellow CHS Alum Derrius would follow the lead of fellow Bear Warrick Dunn, and practice a lil more glancing blow style self-preservation for longevity(aka lifetime earnings) purposes. Dunn knew how to make himself small at the point of impact(like a Boxer)..to make his tiny NFL frame and career last.

Though beautiful and ferocious to watch, I fear Guice's Napoleanic Complexed running style will get costly eventually?

Did you watch the oj special? It laid out a picture of how everyone is so willing to accept him as long as he did it their way?

I wonder if that same thing pays out locally at these restrictive/private/segregated schools to a lesser degree.

Oh we love you so much as long as you dress and talk and act like us. Anything else is knucklehead southside coming out.

I don't know I'm just speculating, but Baton Rouge is in the racial spotlight and is prime territory for positive discussion and has the opportunity to lead in this as opposed to follow

Don't be a fool. 4s up is the top down is the bottom. Different sides of what is referred to as the south. Don't be that guy.

They are across the street from each other

The article definitely makes Catholic High seem like it's in a far more dangerous area than it is though.
